SEASON 200 7-08
Saturday 11 August 2007 Dinas Powys 2, Croesyceiliog 1 Following two wins and two defeats in pre-season games it was time to get down to the real thing with a tough league opener against Croesyceiliog. An influx of new players brought in by Manager Nick Tucker gives real hope of improvements on the field and a high league position by the time the season ends, writes Morley Williams of Dinas Powys FC. Dinas started the game with plenty of possession and Nathan Hosgood was marginally offside following an astute pass from Geza Hajgato but it was Croesyceiliog who took the lead against the run of play when Mike Pattimore spotted the home keeper off his line and placed his 35 yard free-kick just under the crossbar with the keeper desperately trying to recover. Within a couple of minutes Dinas almost scored when a corner was played to Dale Gardner and his shot from out on the left hit the angle of crossbar and upright and rebounded to safety. With Dwayne Strong winning the ball in the air Dinas looked dangerous with some good approach play and when Dwayne and Nathan Hosgood linked well it was Dwayne’s shot that was defected for a corner, this was cleared back to him but he shot wide when he should have at least forced the keeper to make a save. Croesyceiliog had to be content with the odd break, Mike Pattimore’s free-kick was comfortably taken by home keeper Kieron Blackburn and Chris Mills shot wide following a good cross-field pass to him. Dinas went in at half-time still a goal down but having shown plenty of promise for the second half. Dinas started where they left off in the first-half with Dwayne Strong figuring prominently, he beat a defender and played the ball to the much improved Jason Cowan but he shot narrowly wide, then, Geza Hajgato turned and played a great ball to Dwayne but again the shot went wide. With Kurt Bettles, Chris Ashley, and Phil James looking secure at the back the visitors didn’t look likely to trouble the Dinas keeper but at the other end John Bailey had to save with his feet as a Dale Gardner cross found Nathan Hosgood at the near post. With an hour gone Manager Nick Tucker decided it was time to introduce the fresh legs of Shelton Payne and Calvin McLaggon. Croesyceiliog were relying more and more on free-kicks for their goal efforts and Kirk Hicks did manage to force a save from the home keeper. Dinas hit the crossbar for the second time when Nathan Hosgood tried a long range effort but again the ball rebounded to safety. With a Croesy player down with what looked like cramp Dwayne Strong made a good run down the right before finding Shelton Payne free in the area but his attempt was blocked by a defender, further chances went begging with Dwayne Stong and Kurt Bettles heading narrowly over from corners. Finally with six minutes left Dinas got the equaliser their play deserved, Geza Hajgato again found time and space to play a good pass to Shelton Payne, he beat a couple of defenders on a typical mazy run before placing the ball wide of the keeper. The home side were not content to sit back and take the draw, they pressed forward searching for the winner and in the last minute, following a throw, Shelton Payne again weaved his way into the penalty area and was brought down by the keeper the penalty duly converted by Geza Hajgato for a deserved win against a well organised side.
SEASON 2006-07
Saturday 5 May 2007 Dinas Powys 0 - 5 Taffs Well Another poor performance from a Dinas’ side sapped of confidence over the last few matches, with nothing going right for the home side. Taffs Well took their chances well scoring at the right time against a side depleted by injury. The home side could not cope with Taffs Well’s three man forward line and conceded two goals in the first eight minutes, the first coming from a swift break down the left side with the low cross converted by the unmarked Barry Gunstone. The second came following a free-kick initially cleared but played back in to Steve Edwards to score. Dinas managed to get more possession during the first-half but in contrast their forward line looked punchless and it was Taffs Well who increased their lead on the stroke of half-time when a free-kick was played into the six yard box and Gavin Bennett scored from close range to send them in with a comfortable three goal lead. In the second half Dinas were able to gain a little more possession and began to pass the ball well without threatening the visitors goal. But once again it was Taffs Well who showed how it should be done with a further two goals in as many minutes, the first came from a corner played to the near post, the ball ricocheted off a defender before a Taffs Well boot got the final touch the second came when a bad back pass put the Dinas' keeper in all sorts of trouble, he could only clear the ball to Barry Gunstone who was able to round the keeper and walk the ball into the net. Thankfully that was the end of the scoring with the only Dinas player coming out of this game, and many others this season, with any credibility being defender Jon Carpentier. MORLEY WILLIAMS
Wednesday 2 May 2007 Ely Rangers 3 - 1 Dinas Powys Although this was an improvement on the last game it was still not good enough to get a result and Dinas are still looking for the couple of points they need to make sure of safety. Dinas had the first real opportunity from an eleventh minute corner when the ball cleared everybody and seemed to be on its way into the net until a Rangers defender headed off the line. On the small pitch with the game moving quickly from one end to the other Rangers were grateful to keeper Ashley Hart for a smart double save first from a Rikki Morgan shot and within seconds he did well to beat out Kevin Davies’s low drive. It was Rangers who broke the deadlock when players from both sides challenged for a high ball in the Dinas area, the referee blowing for a penalty for pushing and Sean Nash converted. Within five minutes Dinas had levelled the score when the Rangers keeper pushed a Nana Baah shot around the post, Mark Dunford headed the resulting corner in from close range. The visitors almost took the lead following a good run and cross from the right touch-line, Nana Baah could not connect at the near post with the ball running out for a goal-kick. Dinas had had the better opportunities in the first half but went in all square. Rangers were applying more pressure on Dinas with Alex Skinner in goal cutting out a good cross and taking a corner underneath his crossbar. Dinas had Kevin Davies sent off for a second booking in what was an increasingly niggly game, the referee evening up the sending off count when Ranger’s Dave Penniket also got his marching orders for a wild challenge on the edge of the area. Dinas went close to scoring when Lloyd Davies headed just over and a Jason Cowan free-kick was pushed over the cross-bar by the Rangers keeper. Disaster struck with five minutes to go when Dinas keeper Alex Skinner beat away a shot that fell kindly to Gareth West to score from 18 yards. It got worse just a minute later when, following a throw on the left, a low cross found the same player in front of goal and he made no mistake giving Rangers an unassailable lead and a lifeline to safety. Saturday 28 April 2007 Dinas Powys 1 - 3 UWIC This was quite simply the worst performance of the season and puts Dinas back in the relegation dogfight, with nothing good to report in this performance I will just stick to the main events in the game. In the sixth minute an og gave Uwic an early lead, just on half-time they scored there second from a penalty taken by Duncan Culley. Nine minutes into the second-half Chris Rogers scored the third following a free-kick on the corner of the penalty area. Rikki Morgan scored the Dinas consolation goal ten minutes from the end. UWIC fully deserved this win and looked the fitter and more committed side. MORLEY WILLIAMS
Monday 23 April 2007 Croesyceiliog 1 - 1 Dinas Powys The first rain for a few weeks made the hard ground slippery and, for the second game in a row Dinas took the lead, they were the better side but allowed the home side a share of the spoils when they scored five minutes from the end of the game. Croesyceiliog were first into their stride forcing a couple of corners comfortably dealt with by the Dinas defence, Rhodri Foote had the first opportunity for an attempt on goal but Pat O’Hagan in the home goal just beat him to the ball to clear. A header out of the Dinas defence found Rikki Morgan who beat a couple of defenders but as he was shaping up to shoot a third nicked the ball away from him. Gafin Griffiths, making his first start up front, got his head to a Stacy Kodani cross but was just wide of the goal. A Dinas corner was headed clear by a Croesy defender but only fell to Rhodri Foote whose first-time 20 yard shot rattled the crossbar. In the thirty-sixth minute the home side put together a good move with a ball inside the fullback for Andrew Pritchard his cross was met by Mark Jones but his low shot was well saved by keeper Joe Cushieri. The first-half finished in the gathering gloom with Dinas having had the better chances. Six minutes into the second-half Dinas took the lead following a short corner taken by Chris Round to Rikki Morgan, he advanced to the corner of the area before hitting a low ball towards goal which evaded everybody but was eventually hacked clear with Dinas claiming the ball had crossed the line, fortunately the linesman and referee agreed. Croesy came back into the game with Dinas conceding a number of corners and free-kicks, one effort clearing the crossbar from just five yards. In the sixty-fifth minute Rikki Morgan played a free-kick into the home area where Nana Baah headed just over from only six yards, his first touch since coming on just a minute earlier. The home side were playing a dangerous game pushing players forward and leaving themselves exposed at the back but despite having a number of chances Dinas could not put the game beyond them. A few minutes before the end Croesy were awarded a free-kick when Dinas were caught offside, the ball was hit deep into the Dinas area where the ball fell to Lloyd Bristow who shot high into the net. Before the game Dinas would have taken a draw but came away disappointed to have conceded a late equalizer having had the better of the chances in both halves. MORLEY WILLIAMS
Saturday 21 April 2007 Maesteg Park 1- 1 Dinas Powys In the first half of this game the visitors were well in control restricting Maesteg and especially the dangerous Robert Walters to very few chances but in the second half Dinas gave the ball away too cheaply and let the home side back into the game and in the end a draw was probably about the right result. Dinas started well winning a number of free-kicks with Jason Cowan just clearing the bar with one 25 yard effort. Little was seen of Maesteg’s twenty-three goal top scorer Robert Walters until the twentieth minute when he cut into the area and looked to be favourite to score but a timely intervention by Sam Hartrey enabled keeper Joe Cushieri to gather the ball. Within a minute Dinas had taken the lead when they won the ball in midfield and following some neat passing the ball went out to Chris Round on the left side of the area, he put in an excellent cross to the far post where Rikki Morgan rose majestically to head home from two yards. The away side continued to dominate the first-half and when a Maesteg throw-in deep in Dinas’s half fell to Rhodri Foote he ran the length of the pitch before a defender cleared for a corner taken short to Rikki Morgan whose far post cross was met by Sam Hartrey but his effort was wide of the post. Dinas went in at half-time with a one goal lead but it should have been more following a half they had dominated. Maesteg made there intentions clear within five minutes of the restart when Robert Walters headed against the crossbar and just three minutes later his challenge on the Dinas keeper was judged by the referee to have been a foul. The home side were creating more chances this half with Dinas giving the ball away too frequently but they still managed to create chances and again it was Chris Round the provider when his cross was met at the far post by Nana Baah, he should have done better than to head tamely wide. Maesteg’s goal came when Dinas gave away a free-kick just outside the area, Robert Walters stepped up to place the ball into the top right corner. Dinas could have retaken the lead with Mark Dunford heading over the bar and, near the end home keeper Gareth Scantlebury grabbed the ball at the second attempt from a fiercely hit shot. Near the end Maesteg had Keiron Howells sent off for violent conduct, their third sending off in as many games, but Dinas could not take full advantage and the game finished all square. Saturday 14 April 2007 Dinas Powys 2 - 1 Bryntirion Athletic Dinas started this game in determined fashion and after just five minutes, a Jason Cowan corner fell to Danny Kinsey to fire home from five yards. They continued to press and on the 10 minute mark, after good work from Stacey Kodani and Ricky Morgan, Kevin Davies forced the visitors' keeper Rob Cronick to make a good save. The hosts had further chances to increase their tally but couldn't take them. With 15 minutes of the half remaining, Kevin Davies sustained an injury and was replaced by Paul Carro. Bryntirion's only real chance came just before half-time and their striker fired just over the bar. Whatever Francis Ford said to his players at the interval certainly worked and they soon began to take charge of proceedings. Just seven minutes had gone when a deep cross was pushed over the bar by Alex Skinner, deputising for the unwell Joe Cushieri. Three minutes later Skinner made a superb diving save to keep the visitors out but their pressure eventually told after a mix up in the Dinas defence allowed Jonathan Cass in to lob Skinner to level the scores. Jon Carpentier was having a brilliant game for Dinas, winning many headers along with Danny Kinsey in the heart of the Dinas defence. Just when a draw looked the likely outcome, recent Dinas signing Nana Baah, who had worked hard all game for no reward, produced a real contender for goal of the season in the 88th minute. He beat his marker and cut inside to hit a superb shot from 22 yards into the top corner to bag all three points for the hosts. Peter King
Wednesday 11 April 2007 Dinas Powys 0 - 3 Goytre United The Villagers knew this would be a difficult fixture, Goytre being one of the best sides in the league but, although the score was 3-0 to the visitors, the game was end to end for the most part. Dinas started well and Shelton Payne fired a shot straight at Chris Curtis, the visitors' keeper. Goytre thought they had opened their account when a deep cross was dropped by Cusheiri into the net but he was fouled and the effort was disallowed. After 10 minutes, Goytre were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box which Richard Ryan bent round the Dinas wall with a low shot giving Cushieri no chance, for the opener. Ryan doubled his tally soon after with a superb looping shot from the corner of the 18 yard box. Dinas upped their work rate and on the half hour mark Shelton Payne broke free to beat the last defender to score but was adjudged to have hand balled in the process. Paul Carro also had a fierce shot at goal which cleared the bar. Dinas opened the second period in determined mood with Baah and Payne having efforts saved by the keeper. Cusheiri then brought off a superb one handed save from a header, again by Ryan. Skipper Darren Lyons made it 3-0 for the visitors with a looping header after Dinas had lost possession. Despite bringing on fresh legs with Rhys Yates replacing Payne, Lloyd Davies for Kinsey and Jason Cowan for Rhodri Foote, Dinas could not get the breakthrough in the gathering gloom although Nana Baah did hit the woodwork late in the half. Saturday 7 April 2007 Taffs Well 1 - 2 Dinas Powys
This match was played in lovely sunshine on a hard ground with both sides fighting for mid-table obscurity but two goals from Shelton Payne just edged the game for the away side.
His first goal came after just four minutes when a loose ball in midfield was headed on to Kevin Davies, he passed to Shelton Payne who shot over the keeper from 20 yards to give Dinas the lead. They say that teams are at their most vulnerable just after scoring and so it turned out as within a minute the home side had equalised when Gavin Bennet beat the Dinas keeper to a free-kick to head home from close range.
Taffs Well went close with a couple more free-kicks the first from Barry Gunstone clearing the crossbar and then Stacey Kodani had to head the second to safety.
On the half-hour a Dinas free-kick was quickly taken by Rikki Morgan to Shelton Payne, he moved into the area easily beating his marker and crossed low only for a defender to clear at the near post.
A good move from the home side gave Lee Denner the opportunity to shoot from the edge of the area his effort just scraping the left upright. Just before half-time Paul Carro nearly put Dinas back ahead when he met a near post corner only to clear the crossbar with a first-time effort.
Dinas were forced to make a couple of half-time substitutions through injury with Chris Round and Nana Baah, making his debut, coming on and straight from the kick-off Shelton Payne weaved his way to the edge of the Taffs Well area only to shoot well over.
Ten minutes into the half the home side had Rhys Jones sent-off following a bad tackle on Rikki Morgan and just a few minutes later Dinas were temporarily a man short when Stacey Kodani had to go off for attention with a cut eye after being caught with a stray elbow.
On seventy-six minutes Dinas took the lead their improved second-half performance deserved, a throw midway in the Taffs Well half found Paul Carro whose pace took him to the bye-line, there he crossed low to find Shelton Payne racing onto the ball to score low past John Howe in the home goal.
Dinas almost scored a third following a Taffs Well corner, the ball was cleared to Nana Baah who in turn found Shelton Payne, his shot was just inches wide of giving him his hat-trick. With just three minutes to go it was keeper Joe Cusheri’s turn to save the day with a couple of point blank saves as the ball bounced around inside Dinas’s six yard box.
It was hard to pick out individual performances in this game but praise must go to Stacey Kodani who played well despite a cut eye and also carrying an injury for the whole of the second-half. MORLEY WILLIAMS
Wednesday 4 April 2007 Ton Pentre 4 - 1 Dinas Powys
Ton Pentre got into their stride quickly and new signing Andy Mainwaring made his presence felt with a couple of shots which were off target. Not to be outdone, Dinas striker Shelton Payne hit the cross bar when he lobbed Marty Ellacott in the Ton goal.
The hosts opened their account in the 12th minute when, after a flowing move, Ryan Jenkins hit a superb shot from the corner of the 18 yard box, giving Joe Cushieri no chance. On the 20 minute mark, Lloyd Davies, standing in for the injured Danny Kinsey, headed just over the bar from a throw in. The 'Bulldogs' always looked the better side on the night and they doubled their tally when Stacey Kodani failed to clear a lofted ball into the box and Alyn Jones drove the ball home.
The visitors always looked dangerous on the break however, and Shelton Payne broke through the defence again but his low shot hit the upright. This seemed to spur Dinas on and they had their best spell of the match with skipper and man-of-the-match Ricky Morgan leading by example, riding four tackles to cross low for the onrushing Kodani to side-foot home just a minute before the interval.
Ton were not to be denied however and started the second half in determined mood, their passing and movement was excellent and they soon made it 3-1, Jenkins again the scorer.
Dinas manager Nicky Tucker then rang the changes replacing Sam Hartrell and Kevin Davies with Jason Cowan and Kelvin McClaggon. Ton added a fourth goal late in the game after Joe Cushieri had parried the first attempt only to see Ton substitute Dwayne Mardenborough drive the ball home from close range.

Saturday 31 March 2007 Dinas Powys 3 - 1 Caerleon Manager Nick Tucker must have been wondering where his first win was going to come from but thanks to two goals from Mark Dunford and one from Shelton Payne Dinas moved above Caerleon in the league deserving the win with an improved performance. The game started with the home side showing Caerleon a little of what was to come with Shelton Payne racing into the penalty area but his shot was deflected for a corner, a minute later a Rikki Morgan free-kick was headed towards goal by Mark Dunford only for keeper Richard Lancaster to push the ball away for another corner. Caerleon came back into the game and Dinas had to be grateful to keeper Joe Cusheri for pulling off three good stops within a few seconds as the visitors looked for the opening goal. They didn’t have to wait too long and when a corner, taken by Simon Truman, was allowed to run across the six-yard box Chris Pearce was on had to shoot home from 12 yards. The visitors boosted by the goal started to look dangerous but just ten minutes later Dinas equalised when a Caerleon free-kick was intercepted by Jon Carpentier whose pass to Shelton Payne enabled him to advance into the area, a defender slipped and fell at Shelton’s feet and appeared to push the ball away with his hand, the referee blew for a penalty converted by Mark Dunford. A couple of minutes later Caerleon were again caught out when they lost the ball deep inside the Dinas half, the ball was immediately switched to Shelton Payne whose pace took him past a defender and crossed invitingly for the onrushing Mark Dunford to place the ball past the keeper giving Dinas a half-time lead. The second-half started with neither side forging any worthwhile goal attempts until the sixty-second minute when a low cross into the Caerleon area was only cleared to Shelton Payne 15 yards from goal, he wrong-footed a defender before shooting low into the corner of the net giving the keeper no chance to save. Dinas sat back and allowed Caerleon to come at them but restricted their chances mainly to corners. Even the elements were with Dinas when the wind increased bringing heavy rain, not forecast by Derek, making it very difficult to put together any meaningful attacks for the last ten minutes, Dinas eventually running comfortable winners. Saturday 24 March 2007 Dinas Powys 0 - 0 Grange Harlequins
With local rivals Grange Quins in the relegation zone, and Dinas just above, this was a game with plenty of effort but not too much skill on show, the home side being more pleased with the point than the away side who really needed to pick up all three.
Both sides started quickly and the Quins showed their intent in the first minute with a Julian Dos Santos shot comfortably saved by home keeper Joe Cusheri. Dinas replied a minute later with Mark Dunford preferring to shoot than pass to Paul Carro unmarked in front of goal which would have been the better option.
The home side's best weapon seemed to be the long throw of Neil Passmore and from one of these Kevin Davies hit the bar twice in the space of a few seconds.
Twenty-five minutes into the game Dinas thought they had taken the lead when another long throw was flicked on by Danny Kinsey and eluded the keeper to find the net only for the referee to give offside. Joe Cusheri had to pull off a good save from the elusive Nathan White and the Quins claimed a penalty when a player went down in the area but the linesman flagged for a foul for the home side. Dinas centre-half Danny Kinsey almost gave them the lead with a powerful header from a corner but a defender somehow managed to deflect the ball over the crossbar when he looked certain to score.
With Dinas having created the clearer opportunities in the first-half the Quins needed to step up their efforts and forced the home side back but were unable to create much in front of goal and with Dinas missing the influence of Phil James it was hard to see where a goal was going to come from. Mark Dunford and Rhodri Foote both had headers for goal off-target but in the end a goalless draw looked the most likely outcome well before the end of the game.

UWIC 2 - 0 Dinas Powys
From the outset the one outstanding factor in this game was the wind blowing down the pitch making it extremely difficult for both sides.
In the first half UWIC had the advantage of the wind and pinned Dinas back in their own half scoring the opener on the half hour from a well taken 20 yard free kick curled round the wall and just inside the post giving keeper Joe Cusheri little chance. The visitors only really came close when Paul Carro broke from inside his own half beating a defender before feeding Jason Cowans, his cross appeared to hit a defenders hand but the referee turned down a strong appeal for a penalty.
Dinas had the strong wind at their backs in the second half but UWIC were able to build more attacks than Dinas had in the first half. On seventy-five minutes they doubled the lead following a mix-up in the Dinas defence out on the touchline, the ball was quickly crossed to their centre-forward who fired home from 15 yards. The visitor’s chances were restricted to long-range shots and corners but were unable to break down the UWIC defence.
The home side have strengthened their side with a number of Cameroon players hoping they will avoid the drop down to Division Two, Dinas will also have to work hard between now and the end of the season to make sure they are not sucked into the relegation dogfight.

Dinas Powys 2 - 2 ENTO Aberaman Ath
Fifth-placed Aberaman must have gone home thinking that some decisions had not gone their way in this game but, despite having put Dinas under a lot of pressure they did not carve out that many goal scoring opportunities and in the end the home side just about deserved the point with Danny Kinsey outstanding in defence.
On ten minutes Joe Cusheri in the home goal had to be alert when a defensive header looked to be going in but he managed to push the ball round the post and Joe again was on hand a few minutes later to take a deep cross at his far post under pressure from the busy Nathan King.
Dinas opened the scoring just a minute later when in form Mark Dunford chased a return pass from Rikki Morgan into the area just getting there ahead of Neil Collins in the visitors goal to toe-poke in from 12 yards. They could have doubled the lead five minutes later when Paul Carro found room on the right to put in a good cross, Mark Dunford was again on the end of it but his first time effort was just outside the upright.
The home defence had restricted Aberaman to a couple of corners and a long range shot from Neil Davies until Jon Phillips won a tackle on the edge of the area and was on the end of the return ball to head just inside the post for the equalizer a few minutes before half-time.
Aberaman started the second half much as they had in the first, Joe Cusheri had to push the ball round the post from a fierce shot from Neil Davies and following a corner the ball fell for Paul Dawes but his shot was off target.
Dinas' reply came with a sweeping move from deep in their own half, Phil James astute pass found Paul Carro who made progress before delivering an excellent cross but Rhodri Foote’s shot was too close to the keeper.
With just ten minutes to go Dinas had brought on their substitutes and were forcing their way back into the game with Stacey Kodani prominent, but even he was unable to do anything when a minute from full time a long ball into the Dinas area was given a helping hand by former Cardiff City player Kurt Nogan, he was then able to lay the ball back for Paul Dawes to shoot low into the net from 12 yards.
It looked as though the visitors were going to take all three points but Dinas were not going to give in that easily and almost immediately they forced Aberaman back and from a long throw into the area Stacey Kodani made room but his shot hit a defender on the hand and the referee had no hesitation in awarding a penalty duly converted by Rikki Morgan, the referee blowing for full-time immediately after the restart.

Saturday 24 February 2007 Dinas Powys 1 - 2 Afan Lido
Despite the result Dinas were glad to get this game played as it had been nearly three weeks since the previous game, work on the pitch during the morning enabled the referee to give the go-ahead an hour before kick-off.
The game started at a frenetic pace especially in midfield and it wasn’t long before Lido carved open their first chance when Steve Parry’s cross was met by John Felton only for his shot to clear the crossbar.
Dinas' reply came from a Jason Cowan corner comfortably taken by Brian Thomas in the visitor’s goal. It wasn’t long before Jason Cowan was in the thick of the action again winning a couple of important tackles in midfield before feeding Paul Carro on the edge of the Lido area, his low shot was parried by the keeper only to find Mark Dunford 20 yards from goal who coolly steered the ball into the net to give the home side the lead.
In an even first half Lido’s reply came mainly from corners dealt with by the home defence until five minutes from half-time, when, a corner was not cleared properly allowing a long cross back into the area to find Carl Evans who headed home for the equalizer.
Lido started the second half brightly with Ian Jones shooting over the crossbar but Dinas were always a threat and when Paul Carro carried the ball from well inside his own half he was unable to find well placed Mark Dunford. The same players combined well to give Mark Dunford a shooting opportunity but his well struck shot was somehow pushed away by keeper Brian Thomas for an unproductive corner.
Ten minutes from time a mix-up in the home defence gave Ian Jones the chance to put Lido ahead in the game which he gratefully took. It was Paul Carro who looked most likely to get Dinas back in the game and when he beat a defender wide on the right his excellent cross was just cut-out by a defender on the near post before Mark Dunford could make the most of the opportunity. Their final chance came in the final minute with a 25yd shot narrowly wide of post from new signing Neil Passmore.

Grange Harlequins 1- 1 Dinas Powys
Those supporters who braved a bitterly cold night were treated to a game of few chances played on a bumpy Leckwith Stadium pitch, Dinas played the better football but created few clear chances and had to settle for a point.
Following a Dinas free-kick Phil James gave the ball to Kevin Davies who beat a defender before unleashing a powerful 22 yard shot tipped over the crossbar by Alain Fouanguim in the home goal. Paul Carro forced the home keeper into a sharp save following a good through ball from Phil James before Omar Abdillahi’s 20 yard shot forced a save from Joe Cushieri in the Dinas goal.
With Dave Penikett and Jon Carpentier bottling up the home forwards the first goal came as something of a surprise when the Quins were awarded a free-kick wide on the left, the ball into the penalty area was headed on by Mathew Hopkins and looped into the far corner of the net.
Further chances fell to Paul Carro following good work on the right by Rhodri Foote but his effort was to high and then Calvin McLaggon’s shot was cut out by home defender Eston Chiverton. The Quins ended the half with a long range free-kick comfortably saved by Joe Cushieri.
Dinas continued to take the game to the Quins at the start of the second half with Rikki Morgan’s long-range shot testing the home keeper. The front two of Paul Carro and Calvin McLaggon were looking to put more pressure on the home defence and when Paul’s low cross to the near post was met by Jason Cowan, his effort went narrowly wide. Dinas were not to be denied and, nine minutes into the second half, an excellent ball out of defence was headed on by Calvin McLaggon for Paul Carro to chase, his persistence paid of when he rounded the keeper to walk the ball into the net for a deserved equalizer.
Three minutes later Dinas could have taken the lead when a 25 yard shot from Phil James hit the underside of the crossbar only to bounce down and out for a goal kick.
Eston Chiverton’s unruffled approach at the back for the Quins was almost his undoing when he dwelt on the ball for too long and Paul Carro’s challenge was enough to send the ball arcing towards goal but the keeper just managed to reach the high ball. The home side’s answer was a good break down the left and cross into the area met by Omar Abdillahi but his header was straight at the Dinas keeper.
The remainder of the game was played out with little opportunity to make an impression on the scoreline.
With new manager Nick Tucker already making his mark with one new signing you can be sure more new players will be brought in to strengthen the side and hopefully improve their league position.

Dinas Powys 2 - 1 Newport YMCA
This was a poor game with the uneven pitch making life difficult for the players on both sides, Dinas were happy to come away with the spoils and Newport must have felt a little aggrieved at getting nothing.
The away side had the better of the opening exchanges and should have scored when Lewis Sommers headed the ball on for Faris Yafai but he could only put his effort high and wide when well placed.
Dinas survived a number of corners aimed at the heads of the big Newport players before taking the lead when Robbie Fowler’s pass went to a Newport defender but he dwelt on the ball just inside his own area and Chris Round robbed him and crossed low but just behind Mark Dunford who did very well to hook the ball in from eight yards when off-balance. This settled the home side and they started to pass the ball despite the pitch, it was no surprise when Dinas scored their second, Phil James throw was helped on by Robbie Fowler to Rikki Morgan, his cross-field ball found Chris Round 30 yards from goal and his left foot shot beat Gareth Yeoman in the Newport goal to double the lead. For the remainder of the half chances for either side were few and far between and they went in at half-time with Dinas seemingly in control.
Newport started the second half much as the first, taking the game to Dinas without creating any clear chances, shots came in from Faris Yafai and John Pardue comfortably dealt with by Joe Cusheri in the home goal. Fifteen minutes into the second half a high ball caused confusion in the Dinas penalty area and when the ball came to Lewis Sommers who put the ball into an empty net with keeper Joe Cusheri stranded.
With about twenty minutes left Newport should have equalised, substitute Lloyd Davies handled the ball deep in the area but the resulting penalty, taken by Craig James, was placed too close to Joe Cusheri and the keeper saved down low to his left.
Newport continued to press with Dinas playing on the break but neither side created any clear-cut chances and the home side were happy to finish with the three points lifting them nearer to mid-table.

Dinas Powys 1 - 1 Pontypridd Town
This was an excellent game between two fully committed sides, Pontypridd are one of the best sides to visit The Murch this season and are well equipped to go on and win promotion to the League of Wales, so it was to the Dinas players credit that they were able to match them for most of this game.
The first real attack came from Pontypridd when Chris Summers made enough room to get in his cross to the near post where ex-Dinas player Nathan Hosgood was able to get a foot to the ball but only managed to steer his effort wide of the post.
The home side's reply came from some neat interplay between Rhodri Foote and Phil James whose cross was just beyond Mark Dunford. Paul Carro’s break from half-way gave Robert Fowler a chance but his low shot was comfortably saved. In the twenty-second minute Dinas created their best chance of the half when an excellent ball to Paul Carro was crossed first-time for the onrushing Phil James to head towards goal but somehow Mark Poole in the Pontypridd goal managed to tip it over the bar, from the resulting corner Dave Peniket’s header ran across goal and wide of the far post. Pontypridd’s reply came from a right wing cross, Nathan Hosgood stepping over the ball enabling Geza Hadjgato to get a shot at goal but well wide.
With Dinas edging the first half it was Pontypridd’s turn to come at the home side after the break with Joe Cusheri in the home goal denying prolific scorer Chris Summers and when they conceded a free-kick on the edge of the penalty area he again did well to save Nathan Hosgood’s effort.
Dinas were still dangerous on the break and when the ball came to Mark Dunford 25 yards from goal his snapshot cannoned off an upright to run across goal to a Pontypridd defender to clear. The Dinas rearguard were coming under increasing pressure and were grateful to their keeper, again saving with his feet, from Chris Summers with the resulting corner cleared off the line, they were a little fortunate five minutes later when Andrew Hughes should have scored from just five yards but blazed over the bar.
Despite coming under pressure Dinas were dangerous on the break and when Pontypridd conceded a free-kick 25 yards from goal Rikki Morgan stepped up to place his low shot past the keeper and just inside the post to score the opening goal.
It was inevitable that Pontypridd would create further chances and five minutes later a high ball into the home side’s penalty area eventually fell to Chris Summers and with Dinas players appealing for a foul on the keeper he coolly scored from eight yards to give Pontypridd what we would have to admit was a deserved equalizer. Both sides had given there all in this game and the final minutes were played out with few scoring opportunities.
This result was all the more deserved as the home side were without a management team following their resignation earlier in the week. The Club would like to thank Mike Spray and Richie Garland for their past effort and commitment.

Barry Town 1 - 3 Dinas Powys
So it was back to the early season form for Dinas in this game and apart for a ten minute spell towards the end of the first half they were in complete control, strong at the back with the return of Kurt Bettles, organized in midfield and dangerous going forward.
Dinas made the early running before Barry’s first attempt on goal, a Craig Reddy shot, ran wide of the upright. Good work by defender Jon Carpentier gave Robert Fowler a shooting opportunity but his effort was way to high, and when Rikki Morgan won a free-kick Dave Peniket’s shot was held by Dan Bradley in the Barry goal.
Within a couple of minutes Dinas took the lead when centre half Kurt Bettles won the ball, he passed to Phil James who sent Paul Carro running into the area to shoot past the keeper and into the far corner of the net from 20 yards. It was then the home side's turn to put Dinas under some pressure with a Josh Bell shot pushed away for a corner and when a deep cross was volleyed towards goal at the far post Joe Cusheri pulled off a great save with his feet to deny an equalizer. Following a Barry corner, cleared by the Dinas defence, the away side forced a corner of their own, the Barry keeper managing to grab the ball following a mix-up in the defence.
Dinas began the second half as they had in the first, Rikki Morgan’s ball to Mark Dunford enabled him to get his shot away but it was too high. The dangerous Paul Carro, having his best game so far this season, won the ball on the touchline before giving Robert Fowler a shooting opportunity but again it cleared the crossbar.
Dinas were in some danger of not making their opportunities count until another dangerous run by Paul Carro at the heart of the Barry defence forced them to concede a penalty with Mark Dunford converting the spotkick. Further chances fell to Mark Dunford and Robert Fowler keeping Dan Bradley in the Barry goal busy.
The home side's reply came from Josh Bell with a 20 yard shot comfortably saved. With ten minutes the Dinas defence had their one lapse of the game when they allowed Gareth Hemmings room to turn on the edge of the area his shot ran inside the far post to give the home side some glimmer of hope.
This should have been the time for Barry to put the Dinas defence under pressure searching for the equalizer but it was the away side who had further opportunities to increase their lead, following another strong run from midfield, Paul Carro shot wide from just inside the area, and in similar fashion it was Rhodri Foote who forced a save from the Barry keeper.
Dinas were not to be denied and in the final minute when Barry were awarded a corner the home keeper moved into the opposite penalty area, the Dinas defence comfortably dealt with the corner and quickly transferred the ball to Mark Dunford lurking on the halfway line, he got the better of his marker and as the Barry keeper desperately made his way back he calmly chipped the ball from halfway into the net.
This third goal was fully deserved giving the scoreline a more realistic reflection on the game, Dinas can now look forward to a much tougher encounter with Pontypridd Town in their next game at The Murch.

Dinas Powys 0 - 1 Maesteg Park
This was the first home game for two months and during that time Dinas have been sucked down towards the wrong end of the table, they are in desperate need of a win but it was not to come from this game despite matching Maesteg for most of the game.
In an even first half it was Dinas who came closest to opening the scoring when Robert Fowler chased a long ball out of defence and managed to reach it just before veteran keeper Gary Wager but his shot was wide of the goal. Once again Rikki Morgan and Phil James were working hard in midfield and Robert Fowler added a more physical presence up front but chances were few and far between for both sides.
The dangerous Robert Walters almost opened the scoring for Maesteg when he found room on the edge of the area but his shot was too high to trouble the Dinas keeper. Just on half-time David Mwasigallah beat a Maesteg defender on the left side of the area only to see his shot across goal run just wide of the far post. The visitors started the second half in determined fashion getting plenty of the ball and putting the defence under pressure, a Rhys Owen header just cleared the bar before a testing ball placed between the Dinas defence and goalkeeper created some hesitancy and Robert Walters got a foot in and the ball just managed to creep over the line without anybody able to get back and clear. A few minutes later Rikki Morgan tested the Maesteg keeper from 25 yards but he dealt with it comfortably. The visitors should have increased their lead when they were awarded a penalty in the 72nd minute but Robert Walters shot was beaten away by Joe Cusheri with his defence completing the clearance. Three minutes later Dinas should have been awarded a penalty when the ball hit the hand of a Maesteg defender but their appeals were turned down. Despite the penalty appeal the referee Paul Walters deserves a mention for allowing the game to be played as it should be between two committed but fair sides. MORLEY WILLIAMS

Bryntirion Ath 2 - 0 Dinas Powys
This game didn’t start to well, the match officials being held up on the motorway meant that the game was over an hour late kicking off, from there on things got worse with Dinas conceding a goal in each half and Bryntirion deserving the win.
The home side had much the better of the first-half and at times the Dinas defence was stretched but held out until the 38th minute when Gavin Thomas cut inside from the right wing and was allowed to shoot from 20 yards beating the dive of the Dinas keeper.
The best of Dinas’s chances fell to Shelton Payne, following a Bryntirion corner headed against the bar by Sean Cronin the ball was quickly transferred to the other end and Shelton beat his defender but shot over the bar with just the keeper to beat, on another day he would have tried to go round the keeper but confidence is low throughout the side and the chance was missed.
Dinas started the second-half with more purpose, Rikki Morgan leading by example, urged his players on but they were restricted to long-range shots, one of those from Rikki Morgan, when his 20 yard dipping shot just cleared the bar and landed on the roof of the net. On the hour Shelton Payne had a chance for an equalizer but Rob Cronick in the home goal turned the ball round the post.
Bryntirion wrapped up all three points in the seventieth minute when Jonathan Cuss met a right wing cross with a powerful header, Joe Cusheri managed to get a hand on it but couldn’t prevent it from going in.

Goytre Utd 4 - 1 Dinas Powys
A run of poor results have meant that Dinas have dropped into the lower half of the league and we knew it wasn’t going to be easy against the side who won the league last season only to refuse promotion to the Welsh Premier League.
It was Dinas who had the early chances in this game with a Dwayne Strong shot in the first minute well held by Chris Curtis in the home goal and then following a corner slack marking in the Goytre defence gave Mark Dunford the chance to open the scoring but he blazed over from just six yards out.
They were soon made to pay for missed chances when a Goytre break saw John Meacock advance into the area and place the ball past Joe Cusheri in the Dinas goal for the opener. Goytre’s passing and physical presence gave them the edge in the first half and they couldn’t have picked a better time to score their second just on half-time, their attack down the left ended with a low cross that the Dinas defence allowed to run across the six yard box and Paul Lenihan had the simplest task to tap in with the referee blowing for half-time just after the kick-off.
Within three minutes of the second half Dinas had made their intentions clear when Dwayne Strong’s run from halfway reached the byeline to put over an excellent low cross, Mark Dunford shrugged off a defender and clipped the ball into the net just inside the far post. Dinas searched for the equalizer with an improved second half display, following Paul Penikett’s downward header Mark Dunford shot was too weak to trouble the Goytre keeper. With Rikki Morgan and Dwayne Strong working hard to lift Dinas they were still in with a chance to get something out of this game, in the seventieth minute Dwayne’s shot was deflected for a corner, the same player then won a free-kick the Goytre keeper had to punch clear.
With the away side committing players forward it was inevitable Goytre would make chances of their own, but they were fortunate to be awarded a penalty five minutes from time and Richard Ryan stepped up to score. Within a couple of minutes Goytre wrapped up the game with a swift break from within their own half, they passed the ball through the Dinas defence and substitute Darren Lyons slotted the ball home from 12 yards.

Caerleon 4 - 2 Dinas Powys
The heavy pitch and Dinas missing a number of first team regulars all proved too a bit to much for the side, who, despite having at least sixty percent of the game failed to make it count in front of goal.
It was the away side that exerted the early pressure with Rhodri Foote prominent on the left combining well with Dwayne Strong and it was Rhodri who first tested Andrew Delve in the Caerleon goal with a low shot, a minute later the same combination saw Rhodri cross from the left side of the area but it was knocked behind for a corner that came to nothing.
The home sides reply came from a free-kick headed on by Ben Davies and rebounding off busy Caerleon winger Luke Cueto into the arms of the Dinas keeper.
Despite good approach play, Dinas had not created any real chances, but the opening goal came against the run of play when Martin Phillips was given too much room 25 yards from goal. His shot should have been dealt with by the Dinas keeper but he allowed it to slip through his hands to give Caerleon the opening goal. Just on half-time the home side increased their lead with Martin Houston heading home a free-kick at the far post. Dinas came out for the second half in determined fashion with Rhodri Foote urging them on with a gritty display on the left. They were now forcing Caerleon back and chances fell to Paul Carro, Rikki Morgan, and Dwayne Strong without finding the back of the net. Rhodri Foote almost capped his best game of the season with a goal, following another strong run his shot hit the foot of the post before rebounding to safety. Despite all their possession it was the opposition who scored a third goal when one of their few attacks ended with Lloyd Davies tripping a Caerleon player in the area and Andy Gay scoring from the spot. This would have finished off most sides but it is to their credit that Dinas replied immediately from the kick-off with substitute Shelton Payne scoring with a low shot from 20 yards. The spate of goals continued when just a minute later Dinas conceded another penalty with Ben Davies converting. Five minutes from time Dinas gained a penalty of their own when Shelton Payne took on three defenders in the penalty area only to be tripped, Dwanye Strong stepping up to score. They should have had a further penalty when Dwayne was blatantly brought down in the area but the referee didn’t see it that way, perhaps he thought he had used up his quota for the day. Newtown 2 - 0 Dinas Powys
FAW Welsh Cup, Round Three
The last time Dinas Powys played at Newtown was in 1998 when it was the neutral venue for their successful FAW Carlsberg Amateur Trophy Final. This time the result was not so good with the superior fitness of the of the Welsh Premier League side contributing to this defeat.
Dinas matched Newtown for much of the first half with Rikki Morgan working tirelessly in midfield. As early as the eight minute Dwayne Strong fed Rhodri Foote, his run into the area ended with a low shot deflected and the resulting corner was caught by David Jones in the Newtown goal.
As expected the home side began pressurising the Dinas defence but with Mathew Lewis and Gareth Hughes both clearing the crossbar with efforts the visitors goal remained intact. On the half-hour the combination of Dwayne Strong and Rhodri Foote again saw Rhodri advance well into the penalty area with his shot being deflected for an unproductive corner.
Joe Cusheri in the Dinas goal then had the crowd of almost two hundred on their feet pulling off a smart save to deny Newtown the opening goal. Just on half-time the Dinas cause wasn’t helped when Chris Round was forced to go off because of a shoulder injury he was replaced by Jason Cowan.
The home side came out strongly for the second half with Joe Cusheri saving a Danny Barton header, the same player then forced Danny Kinsey to clear for a corner just a minute later, and when the Dinas defence failed to clear, Mathew Lewis poked the ball home from five yards to give the home side the all important opening goal.
Despite the efforts of Rikki Morgan and Rhodri Foote the home side increased the pressure and Joe Cusheri in goal had a busy time keeping them at bay saving well from Gareth Hughes and Damien Daniels.
The second goal came from a Dinas throw deep in the Newtown half, a wayward pass giving the home side the chance to break swiftly finishing with Mathew Lewis’s unselfish square pass to Danny Barton who had the easiest of opportunities to score from ten yards.
In the end Newtown’s second half performance saw them through to the last sixteen of the Welsh Cup.
Our thanks go to the officials and players of Newtown for their hospitality before and after the game. MORLEY WILLIAMS

ENTO Aberaman Ath 2 - 1 Dinas Powys
Aberaman were flying high in second position in the league and it showed with their whirlwind opening, racing into a two-goal lead in the first fifteen minutes of the game.
The first came in the eight minute following hesitancy in the Dinas defence allowing the diminutive Kerry Harding to score with a low shot from just eight yards. The home side continued to attack with pace at every opportunity and it was no surprise when a swift break from inside their own half ended with a deep cross and again it was Kerry Harding on the end of it this time to score with a header from close range.
The Dinas defence had to come to terms with the movement and pace of the Aberaman forwards and it is to their credit that they restricted their threat to dangerous in-swinging corners that somehow keeper Joe Cusheri kept out. As the first half came to a close Dinas were slowly dragging themselves back into the game without really threatening to score.
The second half started with Dinas gaining more possession, Shelton Payne created an opening after just three minutes but his 20 yard shot was straight at the keeper. Five minutes later the same player received the ball 30 yards from goal, he skipped past a couple of would be tacklers before shooting low but the keeper produced a good save to push the ball out for an unproductive corner.
The home-side were still dangerous and one snapshot hit the crossbar before bouncing down into the grateful arms of Joe Cusheri.
In the seventy-seventh minute Dinas forced a string of corners, the last taken by Phil James, David Mwasigallah headed on to give Shelton Payne a shooting opportunity he took well, stinging the keepers hands, before the home defence completed the clearance.
Further chances fell to Dinas with Dwayne Strong heading over when well placed. Rhodri Foote forcing Neil Collins in the home goal to push the ball over for a corner taken by Phil James for Danny Kinsey to head towards goal only to see his effort cleared off the line.
Dinas finally saw their efforts rewarded when a run across goal by Dwayne Strong ended with a shot the keeper could only push around the post, the resulting corner was fumbled by the keeper giving Danny Kinsey the opportunity to head home to give Dinas the goal their second half play deserved.

Dinas Powys 3 - 1 Pontardawe
This game was played in vastly contrasting conditions, bright sunshine one minute and then heavy rain making it difficult for both sides.
Pontardawe started in aggressive style, not giving the home side any time on the ball and making the early running but not creating any clear goal scoring opportunities. Dinas began to exert their authority on the game with Paul Carro causing the Pontardawe defence problems with his strong running, from one of them Dinas opened the scoring when his cross was deflected into the net for an own goal. The visitors reply came when the Dinas defence gifted them the ball but the resulting shot went narrowly wide. Half-time came with Dinas just about deserving their narrow lead.
The visitors started the second-half much the same as the first and an early chance was again narrowly wide of the home goal. Neat passing in midfield created a shooting opportunity for Rikki Morgan, his dipping shot bouncing awkwardly in front of the keeper who eventually gathered the ball.
In the sixty-third minute substitute Shelton Payne came on and almost immediately made an impact, the ball came to him just outside the penalty area, with both central defenders in front of him he just waltzed past them before rounding the keeper to score a spectacular individual goal.
This spurred Pontardawe into action and seven minutes later a good cross from the right was headed home from the edge of the six-yard box. The visitors pressed forward searching for the equalizer and it was Joe Cusheri in the Dinas goal who kept them at bay with a string of good saves.
The final goal was scored in the ninetieth minute to put the game beyond Pontardawe, and again it was Shelton Payne, a long ball out of defence found him on the edge of the area and he made no mistake shooting low into the corner of the net.

Afan Lido 2 - 0 Dinas Powys
The Villagers knew this would be a difficult game with Lido having won eight games on the trot and so it proved as the hosts netted a goal in each half, both from defensive mistakes with keeper Joe Cusheri left stranded in no-mans-land twice.
The Villagers started the game well and played the best football in the first 15 minutes until Lido got into their stride and began to dominate proceedings. Having said that Dinas had two good chances to score, one in particular in the first half when, after good work down the right wing and a pin-point cross by Dwayne Strong, Rhodri Foote headed over the bar when, from the stand, it looked easier to hit the back of the net.
This game may have had a different result if the Villagers had had the services of midfield maestro Phil James who was unavailable and sorely missed. The hosts edged proceedings in the second half and were the best team on the day but another chance for Dinas to get on the score sheet went missing when the Lido keeper spilled a cross and Dwayne Strong's shot was blocked on the line.
You don't get many chances to score at this level and Dinas must try and sharpen things up in front of goal and create more openings if they are to remain in the top half of the table. MORLEY WILLIAMS

Dinas Powys 3 - 0 Morriston Town
FAW Welsh Cup, Round Two
Morriston came to The Murch having won just one of their first six league fixtures in Division Two this season but fought gamely especially during the first half before Dinas turned up the pressure and ran out comfortable winners in the end.
It was the home side who had the first real attack when a long ball from Danny Kinsey found Dwayne Strong, back after a lengthy suspension, he used his pace to get deep in the area and pulled back a great ball but there was no Dinas player on hand to finish the move.
Morriston, prompted by ex-Swansea player Jonathan Coates, forced a corner in the eight minute but Joe Cusheri punched the ball clear. Two minutes later Rhodri Foote was put through the visitors defence but was unable to get a final touch and keeper Adrian Barnsley gathered the ball, play was immediately switched to the other end and an inviting left wing cross was spooned over the bar by Andrew Shaw from only eight yards.
The game developed into a midfield battle with neither side creating further chances until just on half time when some intricate passing gave Rikki Morgan the chance to break clear but the referee blew up for half time stopping him in his tracks.
Dinas came out with more commitment in the second half and in the fifty-fourth minute Chris Round showed his strength in holding off a couple of defenders and was still able to get in an excellent cross which eventually fell to Rhodri Foote to score the opening goal from eight yards.
With the home side's confidence growing Dwayne Strong had a goal disallowed for pulling back a defender. The midfield tenacity of Rikki Morgan and the more subtle skills of Phil James were beginning to tell on the visitors and when substitute Marcus Madder, making his first team debut, received the ball just outside the penalty area he moved forward before making no mistake firing across the keeper and into the far corner.
Morriston replied with a 20 yard shot that failed to trouble the keeper and when a Dinas defender did make a mistake the ball ran invitingly across the six yard box with no-one able to get the finishing touch.
Dinas put the game beyond reach when Marcus Madder got his second goal, ably assisted by an incisive pass from Phil James. Morriston almost had the last word from an 89th minute corner but the excellent Chris Round headed clear off the line to make sure they were through to the next stage of the Welsh Cup.
Dinas’s reward is an away draw against Premier League Club Newtown, the tie to take place on 4th November 2006, kick off: 2:00pm. MORLEY WILLIAMS

Dinas Powys 2 - 2 Ton Pentre
It was back to league action for the Villagers after mixed fortunes in the two cup competitions the previous two weeks as they hosted Ton Pentre, a side with a great pedigree over previous seasons.
The Dinas cause was not helped by two late withdrawals from the squad but they knuckled down and an early Chris Round cross was fired wide of the upright by Ramos Karvounaris. The visitors also had an early chance when, from a free kick taken by Picknell, striker Alyn Jones fired over the bar.
Both sides had corners in the first ten minutes which were cleared by the respective defences. Dinas nearly opened their account after a corner found Jason Cowan but his powerful low shot was blocked on the line. Just one minute later Cowan took a free kick from just outside the box which curled just wide of the upright with the Ton keeper beaten.
On the half-hour mark a mistake in the home defence let in Jones to open the scoring. However, just two minutes later a pin-point Phil James cross was volleyed home by young Steve Provis just under the bar which could be a contender for goal of the season.
The game then got a bit heated with Lee Matthews and Jason Cowan being shown the yellow card and Matthews was given his marching orders five minutes later for a late tackle. In the last minute of the half some good passing by Dinas ended with Paul Carro firing home but his effort was ruled offside.
The second period saw both sides force early corners which were cleared. The visitors were then down to nine men after Jones was dismissed for dissent. Dinas were guilty of not making their advantage count and several good chances went begging until the inevitable happened. Ton brought on substitute Rob Blatchford and he soon made his presence felt, charging through the Dinas defence to prod the ball home. With time running out Dinas were awarded a free-kick on the right touch-line and left back Chris Round fired a curling shot in which hit the far post and went in for the equaliser.
Perhaps a fair result on the play, but the Villagers really should have killed the game off against nine men. They must now turn their attention back to the Welsh Cup when they entertain Morriston Town from Division Two next Saturday in the second round.

Dinas Powys 1 - 0 Bryntirion Athletic
FAW Welsh Cup, Round One
Dinas started this game with some fine passing moves and had the visitors on the back foot for the first few minutes, left back Chris Round looking particularly impressive in his first outing since pre-season friendlies.
On the 15 minute mark Dinas were awarded a free kick taken by Dave Blackwell to Paul Carro whose cross reached Ramos Karvounaris but he was tackled before he could get a shot away. Five minutes later the visitors showed their intentions when Shane Dawe fired a powerful shot just over the bar from the edge of the box.
Dinas were still looking the more likely to break the deadlock and after a superb passing move, a cross from Carro found Ricki Morgan but his shot hit the side netting.
On the 30 minute mark Bryntirion mounted some pressure of their own with a goalmouth scramble including three blocked shots before Dinas managed to clear their lines.
With the class of midfielder Phil James setting up many moves, Dinas certainly were the better side in the first period which culminated in Stefano Damiani heading a cross just over the bar and the referee blew up for half-time after Dinas had forced two unproductive corners.
The second period was more end to end stuff with Dinas unable to quite match their dominance of the first half. Both teams had several corners but the defences held firm.
With 20 minutes remaining Danny Kinsey sustained an injury and was replaced by Jason Cowan, Lloyd Davies dropping into the back four. Manager Mike Spray also brought on fresh legs with Rhodri Foote replacing striker Ramos Karvounaris and ten minutes later right back Stefano Damiani was replaced by David Mwasigallah.
The visitors almost took the lead after a free kick reached Neil Clarke but his shot was pushed round the post by keeper Joe Cusheri. With three minutes remaining and extra-time looming, Rhodri Foote charged down the right wing and his low cross was bundled into his own net by Martin Dando under pressure from Phil James to the relief of the Dinas supporters.
The visitors had a couple of long range efforts in the last minute but Dinas held out to progress to the next round.

Saturday 9th September 2006 Dinas Powys 0 - 2 Pontardawe Town Shamrock Travel Cup - Round One The Villagers started this League Cup fixture in determined mood and had most of the early pressure. A 10th minute Jason Cowan free kick was unproductive as was a corner taken by Shelton Payne. A sweet passing move on the 15th minute mark culminated in Ricki Morgan latching onto a through ball but his left foot shot was wide of the upright. Morgan was put through again five minutes later after some more slick passing but he failed to make contact and the ball went out for a goal kick. As the half hour mark approached the visitors forced two corners which Dinas keeper Joe Cusheri plucked out of the air to clear. Pontardawe then had Steve Cox booked for a late tackle on Jon Carpentier which seemed to spur Dinas on again and once again it was Morgan whose acrobatic bicycle kick just cleared the bar. It was then the Villagers' turn to incur the referee's wrath, showing the yellow card to Cowan followed by Morgan just on half-time. The second period was end to end stuff, Cusheri having to make one save from Darren Griffiths. Dinas's best chance to score came from a long throw in which Ricki Morgan headed forcing Mark Snell in the visitors' goal to tip the ball over the bar. Disaster then struck for the hosts after Jason Cowan was adjudged to have fouled a striker in the box and the referee pointed to the spot. The penalty was tucked away by Darren Griffiths. Dinas introduced fresh legs with Sam Alderman and David Mwasigallah replacing Dave Blackwell and Jason Cowans. A Pontardawe break down the left in the dying minutes caught the Dinas defence out and the cross was driven home by Jaimie Rickard to take Pontardawe into the next round. PETER KING

Dinas Powys 0 - 3 Ely Rangers
I suppose I could come up with excuses such as a strong wind, the same for both sides, or the fact that Dinas had two influential midfielders missing for this game but they would not account for a poor display against what was an ordinary Ely Rangers side who worked hard and fully deserved this win.
Rangers scored twice just a couple of minutes before half-time, the first an unopposed header from Sean Nash following a free-kick the home defence failed to clear, and an Alex McInch penalty after a Rangers forward had been brought down by keeper Richie Johnson who received a caution for the offence. Before this Dinas had looked disjointed and failed to make any clear-cut chances on goal.
The second half continued much the same as the first and it came as no surprise when Rangers increased their lead in the 75th minute following neat interplay on the right, the ball eventually falling to substitute Gareth Griffiths who finished with a shot across the Dinas keeper and into the far corner of the net.
The only player who continued this season's form into the game was Rhodri Foote who worked hard throughout the game, the rest dipped well below previous games and will have to pick up for next week’s Shamrock Travel Cup game against Pontardawe Town if they are to progress further in the competition.

Newport YMCA 0 - 1 Dinas Powys
Dinas extended their winning sequence with this fourth successive victory to keep the pressure on Neath at the top of Welsh League Division One. The early pressure came from Dinas with Lloyd Davies heading narrowly wide from a corner and a Jason Cowan shot also wide of the target. The Newport attacks that did breach the Dinas defence, were comfortably dealt with by keeper Richie Johnson.
On the half-hour the away side were awarded a free-kick on the edge of the area, Rikki Morgan took it quickly but his shot hit the side netting, within three minutes Danny Kinsey opened the scoring with a headed goal from a Jason Cowan corner the keeper could not reach. Half-time came with Dinas only a goal up but not really in any danger of conceding an equaliser. Ten minutes into the second half a Gareth Hemmens shot, following a good run into the penalty area, saw the goalkeeper clear the ball with his legs.
The home side's best chance came with a strong run and cross from the left of the area but it was inches in front of Lewis Sommers and Richie Johnson gathered the ball.
Substitute Shelton Payne almost made an impact with one of his mesmerising 40 yard runs, he left a defender in his wake before advancing into the area but his shot beat both the keeper and the far post.
Newport caused Dinas more problems in the second half but Jon Carpentier and Lloyd Davies were once again outstanding in defence giving Richie Johnson a comfortable time and helping Dinas to victory against a side who don’t loose many home matches. MORLEY WILLIAMS

Dinas Powys 1, Croesyceiliog 0
AFTER the Villagers fine win the previous Saturday, they started this game against another side promoted from Division Teo full of confidence. In the first five minutes Shelton Payne gave the Croesy defence something to think about with two mazy runs, both leading to unproductive corners. The visitors began to assert some pressure of their own and they looked dangerous from set pieces. Another run down the left on the half-hour mark by Payne ended with the Croesy keeper making a save at the near post. Club captain Kurt Bettles had to leave the field with a groin strain on 35 minutes and was replaced by Steve Provis. Five minutes before the interval Paul Carro intercepted a clearance and hooked a superb shot into the top corner from 25 yards for the opening goal. The visitors came out in determined mood after the break and had a couple of shots that went wide before Dinas keeper Richie Johnson made a good diving save to deny Croesy an equaliser. The game boiled over with 15 minutes remaining resulting in two Croesy players being shown the yellow card. Manager Mike Spray then replaced the two strikers, Payne and Rhodri Foote with Gareth Hemmens and Ramos Karvounaris to see out the remaining 10 minutes with Croesyceiliog perhaps edging the second half after Dinas had looked the classier side in the first period. An early goal helps Dinas gain a deserved win against a battling Barry side. Dinas took the lead courtesy of a fifth minute goal created by Paul Carro, he beat a couple of defenders before moving into the penalty area and his shot rebounded to Tom Dolton who managed to force the ball over the line.
Phil James had a long range shot headed clear before Barry put together their first attack with an Andy Hammett shot dealt with by keeper Richie Johnson.
The rest of the half was mainly one-way traffic bearing down on the Barry goal but poor finishing and a lack of quality with the final ball meant that the home side went in at half time with just the one goal lead. The second half continued with Dinas in control, ten minutes into the half a great move saw Tom Dalton produced a good ball inside the fullback for Liam Jones to cross and it was Tom who managed to get on the end of it but his shot was straight at Dan Bradley in the Barry goal.
The away side's reply came from Liam Grant whose shot went wide of the post and a long-range shot from Andy Hammett that cleared the bar.
For all their domination a one goal lead was not enough against a Barry side determined not to go down without a fight and it was with some relief when in the last minute the second goal came and it was worth waiting for, keeper Richie Johnson started the move clearing to Jon Carpentier, the ball was passed through midfield and eventually to substitute Shelton Payne wide on the right, he left a couple of defenders in his wake and his 15 yard angled shot beat the keeper and nestled in the net, a goal worthy of finishing off this local derby. Saturday 12 August 2006 Dinas Powys 1- 3 Bridgend This was revenge for Bridgend after Dinas had completed the double over them last season, but until their centre half was sent off in the seventieth minute Dinas had more than matched their opponents.
By the fifteenth minute Dinas had carved out a number of half chances with Lee Idzy in the Bridgend goal having to save from Gareth Hemmings, Phil James, and Paul Carro.
A good move through midfield involving Tom Dalton and Rikki Morgan saw the final ball played inside the fullback for Gareth Hemmings to shoot low forcing the keeper to push the ball around the post for an unproductive corner.
Bridgend’s reply was a snapshot from Shaun Chappel wide of the post and then much against the run of play they launched a high ball into the Dinas penalty area, the home keeper parried the ball under pressure but the ball dropped to Mike Parkin to score into an empty net from eight yards.
The home side continued to press for the equalizer and it was Tom Dalton making his Welsh League debut who came closest with a 20 yard shot just wide of the post with the keeper well beaten.
The second half started much the same as the first with efforts from Paul Carro, Rikki Morgan, and when Tom Dolton picked out Gareth Hemmings his first time shot rattled the crossbar but rebounded to a defender to clear.
Their efforts to find the equalizer were hampered when centre half Danny Kinsey was sent off, and within two minutes Bridgend had scored their second when a Lee Pratt cross fell to Anthony Walters to head home.
Five minutes from the end of the game things got worse for the home side when Mike Hartlet ran through the middle of the Dinas defence to shoot low past the keeper for a their third goal.
Dinas didn’t give up and Rikki Morgan scored from the penalty spot after Paul Carro was tripped in the area when in full flow.
Dinas shouldn’t be too disappointed by this result against what is likely to be one of the stronger sides in the league especially as they have a number of players to come back from injury and suspension. MORLEY WILLIAMS
SEASON 2005-06 Tuesday 2 May 2006
Dinas Powys 1 - 2 Bryntirion
This wasn’t the way Dinas would have wanted to finish their season with the Bryntirion defence in control and the home side not able to reach the levels of recent games.
It was the visitors who carved out the first meaningful chance following a Dinas free-kick that had broken down, the ball running to Mark McKee on the right of the area, his cross was headed narrowly wide by Jonathan Cuss.
On twenty-five minutes a Dinas free-kick taken by Chris Round was met by Danny Doyle, but his header was saved by the keeper. The referee then awarded Bryntirion a penalty, their players seemed as mystified as Dinas as to why it had been given, but when Jonathan Cuss struck it too close to Richie Johnson the keeper parried it away with his defence completing the clearance. But this was a short-lived reprieve, following a good cross from the right touchline Mark Mckee made no mistake heading in from just five yards to give Bryntirion a one goal advantage at half-time.
The second half continued much as the first with the Bryntirion defence getting the better of the Dinas forwards, their opportunities only coming from set pieces.
Bryntirion doubled their lead in the seventieth minute following a good passing move, Martin Dando had the simplest of jobs to stroke the ball home from eight yards.
Five minutes later Dinas gave themselves a glimmer of hope when Drew Fahiya, making his Welsh League debut, finished off what was the home side's best move of the game with some neat footwork and a burst of acceleration to get between a couple of defenders and put the ball wide of Rob Cronick in the Bryntirion goal from twenty yards.
For the remainder of the game Dinas pushed men forward in search of the equaliser, they had a penalty appeal turned down when Drew was brought down in the area and a Liam Jones header cleared off the line but it was not to be and in the end a disappointing result.

Dinas Powys 2 - 1 Maesteg Park
This was an entertaining game played in warm sunshine with Maesteg in third place in the league and until recently in the hunt for promotion to the Welsh Premier League.
The first chance of this game fell to Dinas in the first minute when Maesteg conceded a free-kick near the right corner flag, Rikki Morgan’s cross into the area was initially cleared to Jason Cowan but his ball back in was comfortably taken by Maesteg’s veteran keeper Gary Wager, their reply came from Kyle Morris whose shot was high over the crossbar.
In the tenth minute Dinas won another free-kick this time whipped in by Chris Round forcing Gary Wager to dive low to push the ball out only as far as Danny Doyle but his hurried shot was to high, a minute later the home side were fortunate not to go a goal down when a cross was dropped by the keeper when under pressure from Maesteg’s Robert Walters but Danny Doyle was on hand to head off the line.
The opening goal came five minutes later when Maesteg were awarded a free-kick on the edge of Dinas’s area, the ball was cleared long by Phil James straight to Dwayne Strong who got the better of a defender and made his way into the penalty area only to be tripped, the referee immediately awarding a penalty and Dwayne picked himself up to score from the spot.
The home side just about deserved the lead but Maesteg came back at them when Robert Walters picked up a long clearance but Richie Johnson in the Dinas goal dived bravely at his feet to save. Maesteg’s pressure told in the thirty-third minute when Mathew Rea beat the Dinas keeper to a long ball and had the easiest of opportunities to put the ball in the net to level the score.
With both sets of forwards getting the better of their opposite number this had the makings of a good game and further chances fell to both sides with Phil James just failing in an attempt to chip the Maesteg keeper and at the other end Lee O’Brien hitting the post with the rebound put out for a corner.
On fifty-five minutes Maesteg had a chance to take the lead when Ian Shepperd headed over but from then on Dinas started to take a bit of control on the game and created the better chances.
A long clearance from the Dinas keeper again found Dwayne Strong who headed on to Paul Carro who shot narrowly over then a Chris Round free-kick was headed over by Phil James.
On seventy-six minutes Bryan Craven was brought down just outside the area, the resulting free-kick, taken by Jason Cowan, was deflected making the save easy for the keeper then following an excellent build-up Bryan Craven laid the ball off for Paul Carro but he miss-hit the shot from only ten yards.
Dinas were not to be denied and in the eight-sixth minute another excellent move saw them take the lead, goalkeeper Richie Johnson’s clearance was picked-up by Paul Carro who passed to Phil James, his crossfield ball found Dwayne Strong whose pace got him to the bye-line and his pin-point cross was headed in by Bryan Craven from eight yards.
With only a few minutes left the Dinas defence was able to deal comfortably with the Maesteg attack and they nearly increased their lead when a defensive clearance again found Dwayne Strong who put Paul Carro clear only to see the Maesteg keeper push his shot away for a corner with the referee blowing the final whistle seconds later to give Dinas a deserved victory.

Saturday 15 April 2006 Bettws 3 - 1 Dinas Powys Despite the fact that Bettws were desperate to win this game to help keep them in Division One Dinas should not have allowed this game to slip away from them having dominated most of the game.
Throughout the first half Dinas were camped in the opposition's half without really creating any clear-cut opportunities. In the fifteenth minute Bryan Craven’s persistence forced a corner only to see it cleared for a throw, this was quickly taken and Dwayne Strong was then fouled on the right of the area. Bryan Craven took the resulting free-kick, the Bettws defence conceding a corner from which Dwayne Strong headed towards goal but a defender was on hand to clear. This was typical of Dinas’s efforts in the first-half and as the game approached the end of the half Dinas were caught out by one of Bettws few forays into their half, the home side won their first corner taken deep to the far post, this was headed back across goal where Owen Atkinson was well placed to head in from short range. Within ten minutes of the restart Dinas were back on level terms, Rikki Morgan’s corner was headed on by Lloyd Davies and finished off by Danny Doyle at the far post. The away support thought that Dinas would go from here and wrap the game up, Bettws were in further trouble when goalkeeper Leon Cosker was helped off injured but despite Dinas having most of the game in the second half it was Bettws who took the lead when Gavin Thomas shook off a weak challenge and shot past Joe Cusheri in the Dinas goal. Just a few minutes later the home side increased their lead when Anthony Rawlings beat a couple of defenders on the edge of the area and put the ball into the net from 15 yards. Dinas came back at Bettws keeping them in their own half, near the end Dinas had a penalty appeal turned down when Dwayne Strong raced into the area with a defender just behind him, his lunge appeared to catch Dwayne who went down for what seemed a clear penalty but the referee saw it differently. Dinas Powys 1 - 2 Goytre Utd
With Goytre chasing Neath at the top of Division One Dinas knew they were going to be given a stern test, but even though the result went against them they can take a lot from this game knowing that they matched Goytre for long periods and had a perfectly good goal ruled out.
The away side made the first chance with Ian Turner firing to high from just ten yards, Dinas’s reply came from Dwayne Strong on the end of a quick break but his shot was also to high.
After twenty minutes Goytre were awarded a free-kick 25 yards from goal but the wall did its job in clearing the ball. A couple of minutes later Dinas were denied the opening goal following a powerful run on the right touchline by Dwayne Strong, his low cross was perfectly met by Bryan Craven whose first-time shot hit the underside of the crossbar and rebounded down and somehow out of the goal with Dinas players appealing for the goal.
At half-time the Goytre keeper confirmed that the ball was well over the line and the goal should have stood. The away side stepped up the pressure on the Dinas goal forcing a number of corners and it came as no surprise, following a scramble in the six yard box, that the ball ended in the back of the net off a Dinas defender to give Goytre the lead at half-time.
The home side started the second half brightly and put the Goytre defence under pressure, Dwayne Strong’s deep cross found Bryan Craven but his first-time shot cleared the crossbar, then a Chris Round corner was eventually cleared by the Goytre defence.
Just as Dinas were looking as though the equaliser was coming they conceded another own-goal following a Goytre corner when once again the ball was ricocheting about in the six yard box only for it to go in off a defender.
Even though they were two goals down Dinas did not let their heads drop and fought back strongly, when they were awarded a corner, substitute Rikki Morgan’s well flighted delivery was powerfully headed in by Lloyd Davies to set up an exciting last fifteen minutes but the away side held out and gained all three points in their quest for promotion.

Dinas Powys 1 - 0 Bridgend Town
Since Dinas beat Bridgend three-nil at Coychurch Road the away side had lost just one match in their last twelve games, so Dinas new they were going to be given a stern test of their improved form.
Bridgend started the stronger with Martin Rose placing the ball wide of the near post. Dinas came back strongly and a move involving Dwayne Strong and Bryan Craven ended with a shot from Paul Carro that experienced keeper Marty Ellicott did well to push around the post. But the home side were not to be denied and in the sixth minute a Phil James corner was initially cleared, the ball came back to Phil and his excellent cross was powerfully headed in by Kurt Bettles from ten yards.
Bridgend came back at Dinas forcing a number of corners, their best chance again falling to Martin Rose whose header was just to high. In the 32nd minute Dinas had claims for a penalty turned down when a long clearance from keeper Richie Johnson found Bryan Craven who went down in the penalty area when challenged by two defenders. Both sides had further half-chances before half-time but could not make the most of them.
Eight minutes into the second half Paul Carro won the ball in midfield and moved through the middle to the edge of the area only for a Bridgend defender to get a foot in to clear just as he was about to shoot. Andy Mainwaring then shot over following a lapse in the home defence before substitute Rikki Morgan spotted the Bridgend keeper off his line, his long range shot was off target.
On 66 minutes a good low cross from Carl Jenkins forced the home defence to concede a corner with Martin Rose again heading wide. The Bridgend defence were pushing up to the half-way line and they were nearly punished when Dwayne Strong beat the off-side trap and latched on to the through ball but his weak shot was comfortably saved by the keeper.
Bridgend continued to put the home defence under pressure in their search for the equaliser and the home sides cause was not helped when they were reduced to ten men with the sending off of Jason Cowans for a second bookable offence but they held out for the remaining minutes for another good win.

Bryntirion 2 - 2 Dinas Powys
On a windswept day where the weather dominated the game Dinas tried to continue their recent good run at Bryntirion. The home side had the wind advantage in the first half putting the Dinas defence under pressure. However the early chances fell to Dinas with Bryan Craven shooting wide, Bryntirion had a few chances but did not look like troubling Richie Johnson in the Dinas goal.
Both Paul Carro and Bryan Craven had one on ones with the goalkeeper but failed to take make the most of them and the longer that Dinas went without scoring the more confident the opposition became.
After 35 minutes a long ball was played out of defence by Bryntirion over the top of the Dinas defence, they failed to clear and the Bryntirion forward was left with an easy goal. Just before half time Dinas had another excellent chance to equalise but the final shot was poor.
Dinas made an enforced change at half time with new signing Dwayne Strong replacing the injured Tristan Tony, he was pushed up front with Paul Carro slotting into midfield. Dinas pressed early on and Jason Cowans was unlucky when his speculative 40 yard shot was tipped over the bar.
Against the run of play Bryntirion extended their lead, Richie Johnson parried the first effort but from the resulting melee the ball was scrambled in despite Dinas appeals for a foul on the goalkeeper.
Dinas did not deserve to be two goals down and continued pressing and were finally rewarded when a long clearance evaded everyone and Dwayne Strong clipped the ball over the keeper to score.
This goal gave Dinas confidence and they deservedly equalised when a shot from Brian Craven hit the post and Paul Carro steered in the rebound.
The last five minutes were frantic and both sides had chances to claim the win, in the end Dinas had to settle for the 2-2 draw and were left to rue a number of missed chances earlier in the game.

UWIC 1 - 1 Dinas Powys
This was one of only two games completed in Division One as heavy rain decimated league fixtures with Dinas coming away with a point from a game in which they deserved more against third placed UWIC.
Dinas started well in this game, adapting to the wet conditions and playing good football. In the fifth minute Liam Jones won a corner taken by Chris Round, and when Lloyd Davies and UWIC’s Gavin Chesterfield challenged for the ball they both needed treatment for head injuries. From the restart Jason Cowans found Liam Jones wide on the right then moved into the area to meet his cross only to see his header go wide of the post.
UWIC came back at Dinas with Ryan Jenkins’s cross just too long and the same player shooting from 15 yards forcing Richie Johnson to save low. With Jason Cowans and Tristan Tony dominating the midfield and the pace of Paul Carro and Bryan Craven troubling the UWIC defence Dinas created a number of half-chances but failed to finish them off.
In the 40th minute Jason Cowans and Liam Jones combined well on the right side of the area, Jason beating a defender before crossing only to see the ball cleared for a corner, this was taken by Chris Round for Lloyd Davies to head toward goal, the ball eventually falling to Liam Jones but his shot was cleared off the line. Just before half-time Paul Carro used his pace to get beyond the UWIC defence only to see goalkeeper Brendon Cropley dive low to save well.
UWIC created the first opportunity in the second half with Jason Cowans racing back to head a dangerous cross over his own bar. Their corner was cleared by the Dinas defence where Kurt Bettles was a dominant figure, the ball was immediately transferred to the other end where Bryan Craven was brought down. He picked himself up to take the free-kick and Kurt Bettles did the rest with a diving header putting the ball past the keeper for the opening goal.
Ten minutes later Phil James did well to head clear a dangerous UWIC free-kick and when Lloyd Davies played a great ball out of defence Paul Carro again outpaced the UWIC defence before shooting just wide. Following a Dinas throw on the right Phil James found Paul Carro who left a defender in his wake before crossing low from the bye-line to Bryan Craven on the near post but his shot from six yards went narrowly wide of the post.
The large away support were beginning to wonder if Dinas were going to rue these missed chances and so it turned out when UWIC were awarded a free-kick on the edge of the area, Chris Collins stepped up to take it and his shot seemed to be well covered by the Dinas keeper when it took a wicked deflection and ended in the back of the net for the equalizer.
With UWIC’s confidence bolstered by the goal they attacked the Dinas goal at every opportunity but the defence held out well and they came away with a point that was the least they deserved.

Dinas Powys 4 - 0 Newport YMCA
This was a welcome return to League action after last week’s postponement and a convincing performance for their third straight win against a workmanlike Newport side.
Despite early Dinas pressure it was Newport who had the first chance on goal with a 20 yard shot from Daniel Cueto forcing Richie Johnson to save low down on his left side.
Although Dinas were well on top it wasn’t until the thirteenth minute they had their first chance following good play on the right touchline Paul Carro crossed to Nathan Hosgood who shot first time only to see the ball hit the crossbar. The home side were not to be denied and five minutes later Paul Carro provided an excellent crossfield ball to Nathan Hosgood whose back-heal went straight to Liam Jones, he advanced into the area and shot past Gareth Wesson in the Newport goal.
Just four minutes later Bryan Craven won the ball on the left and pulled the ball back for Phil James to hit a screamer from 20 yards that beat the keeper but just clipped the outside of the post.
Newport fought their way back into the game and both Daniel Cueto and Mark Ingles had shots saved, just before half-time Marc Ingles had a penalty claim turned down by the referee.
Newport started the second half looking for the equaliser with chances falling to Robert Painter and Aaron Stewart both comfortably dealt with by the home defence before Dinas took more of a grip on the game.
They doubled the lead on the hour with a quick break on the right, Nathan Hosgood excellent pass found Paul Carro moving into the area at speed, beating a defender, and firing low past the keeper into the far corner.
Just after this goal Newport’s Marc Ingles fell awkwardly and had to be stretchered off and taken to hospital with ligament damage, we all wish him a speedy recovery.
Dinas’s third goal was a one-man affair with Tristan Tony winning the ball on the halfway line and outpacing a defender, he then had to battle his way past two more defenders before advancing into the area and putting the ball wide of the keeper and just inside the post.
Newport’s response was a to push forward but they left themselves exposed and this was fully exploited by an excellent long ball out of defence to Bryan Craven whose 30 yard shot over the Newport keeper completed the scoring.
Although it may be the goal scorers getting the plaudits for this win it was the work of Phil James in midfield, the determination of Lloyd Davies at the back, and a solid team performance that stood out.

Dinas Powys 3 - 1 Bryntirion
Reserve Division East
This re-arranged fixture enabled players returning from injury to get some much needed match fitness before returning to Division One action in the coming weeks.
One of those players, Jamie Dix, was soon in the thick of it only to be caught offside from an Andrew Salvidge through ball.
Bryntirion’s first chance fell to Andrew Nota, his header going wide of the post.
On fifteen minutes Steve Provis’s quick free-kick found Andrew Salvidge free in the area but his shot was well saved by Jonathan Davies in the Bryntirion goal.
It was the away side who broke the deadlock when they were awarded a penalty, Jeff Williams converting. They almost doubled their lead five minutes later when Darren Nota helped on a free-kick to give Jeff Williams a chance but Mathew Slugg in the home goal produced an excellent one-handed save with Gareth Shaw completing the clearance.
Jamie Dix had a couple of shots well saved by the Bryntirion keeper but it took until the forty-fifth minute for the home side to equalise following a mistake in the Bryntirion defence, Jamie Dix crossed to Andrew Salvidge who scored with a low shot just inside the post.
Dinas came out with more purpose in the second half and it took only three minutes for them to take the lead when they were awarded a free-kick some 20 yards from goal and up stepped Jamie Dix to hit a low shot beyond the diving keeper and into the net. Ten minutes later Andrew Salvidge won a free-kick in a similar position but this time the Bryntirion keeper produced a good save pushing the ball round a post for a corner.
On sixty-three minutes Dinas increased their lead when Dave O’Gorman’s deep cross was fumbled by the keeper, and Jamie Dix scored from eight yards.
A great through ball from Jamie Dix found Andrew Salvidge but good work by the Bryntirion defence prevented him from increasing the lead. Near the end Bryntirion had a chance to pull one back when a defensive clearance struck the back of Gareth Shaw rebounding to Darren Nota but he shot just wide from a good position.
Jamie Dix had a chance to complete his hatrick when the ball fell to him just eight yards out but he his shot went well over the bar when it was easier to score.

Haverfordwest County 5 Dinas Powys 1
MacWhirter (Youth Division) Cup Semi-Final
The Youth team made the long trek down West for this semi-final and while the home side deserved to win the scoreline certainly flattered them with Dinas contributing to an open and entertaining game.
Dinas’s first chance came from a Danny Doyle throw, the ball finding it’s way across the area to Marcus Madder but the home defence just managed to clear.
Haverfordwest’s first goal came just a couple of minutes later with a move they exploited throughout the game, a long ball through the middle which beat the Dinas defence for Jack Christopher to score.
Dinas’s reply came when Tom Dolton beat his defender and made his way deep into the area before producing an excellent cross which was cleared only as far as Drew Fayiha, in one movement he turned and put in an unstoppable shot to level the scores.
The home side were not to be denied and struck back quickly following a corner with a shot that was covered by the keeper but was deflected past him and into the net. The home side’s third goal came just on halftime when the Dinas keeper’s mistake gave Steve McNadney the opportunity to roll the ball into the empty net.
Ten minutes into the second half the usually reliable Drew Fahiya missed an opportunity to get Dinas back into the game following good work by Marcus Madder, the ball was immediately transferred to the other end and Steve McNadney shot over the Dinas keeper to score his second.
Dinas didn’t give up, Drew Fahiya went past a defender but his shot hit the crossbar, then Tom Dolton hit a dipping volley just wide of the post. But it wasn’t to be Dinas’s day and just after they made their final substitution Marcus Madder went down injured and they had to play the final twenty minutes with ten men.
With Dinas still pushing forward it was inevitable that they would be caught on the break and Steve McNadney completed his hatrick in the final minutes. Despite the defeat this side have acquitted themselves well in all competitions this season along with their bubbly manager Richard Brown.

Dinas Powys 1 - 0 AFC Llwydcoed
Once again we had a bright sunny day for this game and once again another new signing, Tristan Tony, making his debut in midfield.
Dinas quickly got into their stride with Paul Carro shooting over when well placed following a good move involving Bryan Craven and Nathan Hosgood. Tristan Tony then made his presence felt with a 20 yard low drive pushed around the post by Lee Idzi in the Llwydcoed goal. But he could not prevent the home side going ahead just two minutes later when an excellent deep cross from Chris Round found Nathan Hosgood who advanced into the area before firing across the keeper and into the net for a deserved lead.
Llwydcoed were finding it hard to get into the game with Dinas dominating and in the 23rd minute Jon Carpentier ran the ball out of defence before passing to Tristan Tony, he beat a defender before laying the ball on for Nathan Hosgood but his shot was just to high.
Following a throw on the right Liam Jones made good progress down the touchline before crossing but Paul Carro’s shot was too close to the keeper. The keeper again had to be alert just a minute later, when following good work by Phil James, Nathan Hosgood’s low hard cross was well intercepted.
Dinas continued to apply the pressure creating numerous half-chances with a Chris Round shoot well saved and an excellent Nathan Hosgood free-kick presenting Bryan Craven and Kurt Bettles with opportunities but both missed out.
So much possession and many opportunities was the story of Dinas’s first half, we just hoped that we weren’t going to regret not punishing Llwydcoed further.
Last week’s goalscorer Bryan Craven started the second half with a series of chances, his first being a free-kick from 20 yards well saved by the keeper, then following a throw he beat a defender to a through ball before shooting just wide. His next effort was a 30 yard free-kick easily taken by the keeper, then after another great left footed cross from Chris Round found him in the area, the keeper challenged him and both fell but the referee waved away calls for a penalty. His final effort was to win the ball in a strong challenge with a defender before firing a shot from a difficult angle straight at the keeper.
His reward was to be substituted five minutes later being replaced by Peter Lewis who was straight into action but again his shooting was too close to the keeper. Dinas then followed this up with a couple of corners both taken by Phil James and both headed just over from the same position by Nathan Hosgood.
Dinas continued to exert pressure but Llwydcoed had improved in the second half without creating any clear-cut chances. Near the end busy keeper Lee Idzi had to get down smartly to stop a Nathan Hosgood shot following one of his typically mazy runs into the area and Paul Carro shot way to high when stretching to shoot from 15 yards.

Taffs Well 0 - 1 Dinas Powys
In bright sunshine but with a blustery wind blowing down the pitch making life very difficult for both sides, as well as freezing the supporters, this was a deserved win for Dinas from a committed performance, with Kurt Bettles making a welcome return after injury and new signing Chris Round making a promising debut.
After seven minutes Taffs Well gave away a free-kick in midfield, taken by Nathan Hosgood for Kurt Bettles to head towards goal but into the arms of keeper David Jones. At the other end Kurt was on hand to clear a Taffs Well free-kick before a good Dinas move involving four Dinas players ended with the home defence hurriedly clearing their lines.
Dinas were playing well but with the final ball going astray on a number of occasions. On twenty-five minutes Taffs Well were awarded a free-kick on the edge of the area taken by ex-Cardiff City player Dai Thomas but cleared for an unproductive corner by the Dinas defence.
On the half-hour following a Dinas throw Nathan Hosgood produced an excellent through ball to split the home defence only for the wind to take the ball away from Steve Provis and into the arms of the home keeper.
Just before half-time a good Dinas break saw Nathan Hosgood beating his defender before shooting low but David Jones in the home goal got down well to save. The break came with Taffs Well having found it difficult playing into the wind in the first half, the away support were hoping Dinas would be able to do better.
Within a minute of the restart Dinas were awarded a free-kick on the left of the area, taken by Nathan Hosgood to find the head of Lloyd Davies but referee Geoff Martin awarded Taffs Well a free-kick for pushing.
The home side were finding it a little easier to push forward with the strong wind behind them and from a throw Steven Edwards produced a good ball across the area only to see the Dinas defence clear for a corner.
Playing into the wind did not seem to be affecting Dinas too much and there were further shooting opportunities for Nathan Hosgood and Paul Carro, both off-target.
Taffs Well's best chance fell in the seventieth minute from a free-kick taken by Mark Evans for the towering Steve Loverso, for once getting the better of Kurt, to head for goal only to see Richie Johnson pull off a fine one-handed save.
Just a few minutes later Dinas broke the deadlock when Bryan Craven chased a through ball into the area only for the home keeper to bring him down, the referee immediately awarding a penalty. The Dinas player picked himself up to convert and give Dinas a deserved lead.
Taffs Well came back at Dinas with their keeper having to make a brave save at the feet of Steve Loverso but when their player-manager was sent off for a reckless challenge on Bryan Craven Dinas were able to play out the remaining minutes in comfort. MORLEY WILLIAMS

Pontyclun 3 - 2 Dinas Powys
Reserve Division East
With the Welsh League Division One side’s game postponed the focus moved to the reserve side playing at Pontyclun who had emphatically beat Dinas in the reverse fixture just seven days before.
Dinas seemed eager to gain revenge over the home side and took the game to their opponents in the first five minutes, Pontyclun struck back with Owain Williams having to clear off the line. A couple of minutes later Dinas made progress down the right, the ball eventually falling to Dave O’Gorman, his cross to the far post found Steve Herniman who shot under the keeper from an acute angle to score.
On ten minutes Dinas increased their lead from a corner, taken by Andrew Salvidge, headed towards goal by Lloyd Davies, and finished from close range by Dave O’Gorman.
The away side continued to have the upper hand and when Steve Herniman setup Andrew Salvidge his 20 yard shot forced the keeper into a diving save to push the ball round the post for an unproductive corner.
Pontyclun started to work their way back into the game and it came as no surprise when a low cross ran along the edge of the area and was shot low into the corner of the net from 20 yards.
Within five minutes Pontyclun were level when their number seven went down all too easily in the area and the spot kick was converted.
Dinas had a chance to regain the lead just before halftime when Andrew Salvidge picked the ball up on halfway and went on a mesmerising 30 yard run beating a couple of defenders before laying the ball off to Lloyd Davies whose shot was pushed around the post by the keeper.
Dinas had the worst possible start to the second half when a right wing cross was allowed to reach a Pontyclun forward in the six yard box who easily scored. The home side were stretching the Dinas defence with Joe Cusheri making a couple of good saves in the Dinas goal.
In the 75th minute a mistake in the Pontyclun midfield enabled Dave O’Gorman to get a run on goal but his shot hit the side netting and in the 90th minute Darren Lane shot from 25 yards forcing the keeper to make a save.
If Dinas hadn’t thought that they had done enough in the first ten minutes they may have got something from the game. One positive from the game was the performance of Andrew Salvidge who worked hard and was always willing to run at the home defence.

Neath 4 - 0 Dinas Powys
After last week's win at home to Ton Pentre hopes were high even though Dinas were visiting table topping Neath and fielded an unchanged side with just a couple of positional adjustments.
Dinas started brightly when Jason Cowans' shot from a full 40 yards forcing the Neath keeper to tip the shot over the bar. In the first 15 minutes the game was even and both sides had chances from curling free kicks with headers going just wide.
Neath took the lead after 22 minutes when Dinas gave the ball away on the edge of the penalty area and the ball was crossed in, whilst Richie Johnson parried the first header he could do nothing about the follow up. The goal seemed to boost Neath's confidence and poor defending allowed them to score a simple second before half time.
Dinas had the worst possible start to the second half when Neath further extended their lead to 3-0.
Dinas kept going but any shots were from range and off target. They had a glimmer of hope when awarded a penalty following a Neath handball in the six yard box. Jason Cowans' penalty was on target but easily saved by the goalkeeper.
Not long after Neath scored their fourth goal after a flowing move. Late on Neath brought on all three substitutes and could have had further goals as Dinas chances came few and far between.
At the final whistle the result was fair although Dinas contrived to make Neath look better than they actually were.

Briton Ferry 2 - 0 Dinas Powys
Expectations were high for this trip to Briton Ferry who are currently bottom of the league but a woeful second half performance from Dinas meant that Ferry were handed only their third triumph of the season.
Although the game started fairly even with the game bypassing midfield on what was a very uneven pitch Dinas started to exert pressure on the home goal and when a 30 yard pass from Phil James found Jason Cowans in the area his shot came off the outside of his foot and Alex Davies in the home goal gathered comfortably.
Following a Dinas corner Paul Carro had his shot cleared off the line and another astute pass from Phil James allowed Liam Jones to advance to the edge of the area only to shoot wide of the post.
At the other end the Dinas defence were working hard to restrict the chances for the big Ferry forwards who were particularly dangerous at corners and free-kicks. Further half-chances fell to Dinas with Nathan Hosgood turning nimbly in the area and shooting just too high and the same player unable to reach a telling cross from Phil James.
The second half started with Ferry gaining in confidence with big centre forward Layton Thomas winning the ball in the air and shooting just wide of the Dinas goal.
This was a taster of what was to come and in the 63rd minute he opened the Ferry account with a powerful header from five yards following a corner.
Substitute Bryan Craven came on for Dinas to make his first appearance but their problems deepened further when Rikki Morgan was sent off to make what was a difficult task almost impossible.
And so it proved with ten man Dinas pushing forward a long ball out of the Ferry defence found Keith Phillips who slotted the ball home from 18 yards to double the home side's lead.
Dinas almost had the last word in this game when Neil Jeremy’s crossfield ball to Steve Provis gave him the opportunity to shoot only to see a defender back to clear off the line.

Pontardawe Town 2 - 0 Dinas Powys
After a week's lay-off there was a return to action with the longest away trip of the season down the M4 looking for the win to keep them above Pontardawe in the league.
Dinas started this game in determined fashion when Liam Jones won a corner taken short to Rikki Morgan but his cross was cut-out and eventually cleared, a minute later a Rikki Morgan free-kick cleared the cross-bar with the goalkeeper beaten.
This prompted Pontardawe into action and their first strike on goal came with a good move on the right of the area ending with Geza Hajgato scoring from 15 yards with a well-struck shot. Pontardawe were forcing Dinas back with a number of well-constructed attacks and it was down to Nathan Hosgood to give Dinas some hope when he typically weaved his way past four defenders before crossing the ball only to see it pass just behind the on-rushing Rikki Morgan.
With the home side's attack led by Carl Mainwaring giving the defence a hard time Dinas went in at half-time fortunate to be just the one goal behind.
Pontardawe started the second half where they left off forcing Joe Cusheri in the Dinas goal to make a fine save from a 25 yard free-kick and Marc Otten heading wide from a corner.
On 51 minutes a long ball out of the Dinas defence forced the home keeper to come out of his area and make a mess of a clearance but Steve Provis could not make the most of a difficult chance and shot wide from 40 yards.
With 15 minutes remaining Dinas were at last forcing the home side back with some determined attacks but without the end product. Deep into injury time and with Dinas throwing men forward Pontardawe second came from a corner that had not been cleared properly and it was again Geza Hajgato who scored this time from 25yards.
A quick mention for Joe Cusheri in the Dinas goal whose saves throughout the game prevented a heavier defeat.

Dinas Powys 4 - 3 Llantwit Fardre
With no first team game this weekend the second team entertained Llantwit Fardre in a game they thought they had tied up in the first-half but which in the end turned out to be a close run affair.
The opening exchanges were fairly even but as the home side started to put together some neat passing moves it seemed just a matter of time before they would open up a defence that looked a bit shaky. A minute after Danny Doyle had hit the post with a deep cross Kris Gibbins made progress down the left before passing to Dave O’Gorman, his cross found Peter Lewis and in one movement he controlled the ball and shot low to the keeper's right to score the opener.
It wasn’t long before the home side increased their lead when a Kris Gibbins cross was met by Tom Hamonet to score in similar fashion to the first goal. With the home side dictating play it came as no surprise when the third goal came direct from a Tom Hamonet corner to give Dinas a much deserved three goal lead at half-time. Llantwit got the start they needed after only a minute of the second half when substitute Mark Facey scored from ten yards following a corner the home defence failed to clear. The game became more even with few clear chances falling to either side and it wasn’t until the 72nd minute, following a mistake in the Dinas defence, that Laith Jawad gave Llantwit further hope with a well taken penalty. These hopes were dashed just two minutes later when a swift Dinas break saw Andrew Salvidge score with a stooping header from Peter Lewis’s cross to give them what should have been a comfortable last 15 minutes. Llantwit had other ideas and when a quick break down the right saw Alex Lewis shoot from the edge of the area and into the opposite corner of the goal, the home side needed to play out the remaining five minutes which they succeeded in doing to gain all three points. Dinas Powys 4 - 2 Ely Rangers
Before the game one minute's applause was held to mark the death of Rob Green who passed away earlier in the week. Rob was manager of Dinas Powys' U14b’s side and the club would like to extend its deepest sympathies to his family and friends.
This local derby started with both sides eager to impress and it was Dinas Powys player Neil Jeremy’s cross that forced Ross Hooper-Nash in the Ely Rangers goal into a hurried clearance, his defence completing the job.
In the fifth minute a Rangers free-kick was headed just wide by David Loosemore, just ten minutes later they took the lead when a dangerous cross from wide on the right was initially cleared but came straight back at the Dinas' defence, they failed to deal with it and Graham Cumming scored from close range.
The home side’s reply was a good move across the edge of the Rangers area ending with a Paul Carro shot cleared off the line and Neil Jeremy following up but clearing the crossbar. The home side continued to press for the equalizer and it came when they won the ball in midfield and put in a long ball for the Dinas' forwards to chase, the Rangers' keeper should have dealt with it but was only able to clear as far as Nathan Hosgood whose shot from 25 yards rolled into an empty net.
Dinas now had the upper hand and continued to attack strongly with youth team player Danny Doyle having an impressive debut at the back. It came as no surprise when just before half-time they took the lead with a goal of real quality, Phil James won the ball just inside is own half, he interchanged passes with three players before hitting an unstoppable shot from 15 yards past the Rangers' keeper.
Dinas started the second half as they had finished the first and it was only a minute old when they increased their lead, a throw on the right was taken by Phil James to Neil Jeremy, he passed to Nathan Hosgood whose cross had the Rangers' defence in all sorts of trouble and Liam Jones was on hand to score from close range.
The game now became a more even affair with Rangers going close to scoring when Gareth Cummings put the ball just wide after the home defence failed to deal with a corner.
Dinas’s play was much improved on their previous display at Maesteg with the ball being played through the midfield but it was Rangers who wouldn’t lie down and in the 68th minute struck back with a quick break from defence, a low cross was perfectly met by Dan Hooper to shoot home from 15 yards.
Coming back to 3-2 Rangers continued to look for the equalizer and forced a number of corners but they were all dealt with by the home defence. Dinas completed the scoring in the 86th minute with Rangers caught out by a long ball out of defence from Liam Jones substitute Rhodri Foote used his pace to reach the ball before the Rangers keeper but he still had the job of putting the ball into an empty net from 30 yards which he did successfully.

Maesteg Park 2 - 0 Dinas Powys
In bright sunshine but on a frozen pitch both sides worked hard to overcome the difficult conditions but it was the greater firepower of Maesteg that gave the home side all three points.
The first fiteen minutes were an even affair with Joe Cusheri in the Dinas goal making a couple of comfortable saves and the reply coming when Neil Jeremy won the ball wide on the right before hitting a cross-field ball to Steve Provis on the left of the penalty area, his cross was met by Ramos Karvouniaris but his header went just over the crossbar. A minute later Dinas were awarded a freekick quickly taken by Neil Jeremy. He fed Ramos but his shot was well taken by Gary Wager in the Maesteg goal, and his clearance gave the home side the chance to take the lead when the ball was crossed from wide on the right and Robert Walters headed home from ten yards.
Dinas’s reply came from a Neil Jeremy corner headed wide by Ramos and then a couple of minutes before half-time a through ball from Neil Jeremy was caught on the bye-line by Ramos, his cross was volleyed just over the crossbar by Lloyd Davies.
Five minutes into the second half Maesteg’s Paul Evans headed wide from a corner and then a clearance by the Dinas keeper was headed on by Phil James for Ramos to chase but he was beaten to the ball by the home keeper.
In the 64th minute Maesteg doubled their lead when a throw on the right was initially cleared but as had been happening all too often the ball came straight back at the Dinas defence and Robert Walters was given time and space to turn on the edge of the area and place the ball over the keeper and into the net.
The last fifteen minutes saw Dinas throw caution to the wind and move forward in greater numbers. Their best move came when the ball was passed through the midfield to Paul Carro, he beat a defender and raced to the bye-line, his cross was met by Ramos whose first-time shot cleared the bar.
With three first-team regulars missing Dinas were again found wanting against one of the better sides in the division. MORLEY WILLIAMS

Dinas Powys 2 - 2 Bettws
In near perfect conditions Dinas Powys went into this game with the confidence gained from an excellent performance in their previous game but were brought down to earth with a bump by the ‘in your face’ style of play by the opposition.
As early as the first minute the home side conceded a needless corner but were let off lightly when an over-head kick went wide of the goal. The early pace was frenetic with Bettws pressing Dinas back and it came as no surprise when a defensive slip resulted in a cross from the right being headed into the net by Anthony Rawlings to give Bettws an early lead.
Dinas' reply came from Ramos Karvouniaris who beat the lunging challenges of a couple of defenders before crossing to Paul Carro but he was judged offside, then a strong run by Liam Jones saw him leave three defenders in his wake but his cross was too near the keeper.
Just on half-time Bettws’s aggressive style and long ball game again bore fruit when Gavin Thomas received the ball on the edge of the area and shot over Joe Cusheri in the Dinas goal to double their lead.
The Dinas management had some work to do at half-time and with the introduction of substitute Phil James it was clear they were going to try to play the type of passing game so successful the previous week and not try to match the aggressive style of the opposition.
The change was almost immediate when only two minutes into the second half Dinas were awarded a free-kick ten yards outside the penalty area, Nathan Hosgood took it quickly passing to Phil James who beat a defender before firing just inside the post to bring Dinas back into the game.
In the 54th minute a Dinas corner taken by Phil James was headed just wide of the post by Nathan Hosgood. Five minutes later the home side got an excellent equaliser when Paul Carro drifted in from the left beating three defenders before putting the ball wide of Leon Cosker in the Bettws goal.
The home side were now looking the more likely side to score with Paul Carro being caught narrowly offside and when Ramos won a corner, taken by Phil James, his cross was put just wide of the post by Rikki Morgan.
Phil James was now in the thick of everything and after swapping passes with Nathan Hosgood he then found Ramos whose shot produced a good save from Leon Cosker in the Bettws goal.
The away side’s aggressive play now started to backfire on them and in the 77th minute Karl Miller was sent off to be followed in the 92nd minute by Owen Atkinson both following second bookings. In between Dinas were looking for the winning goal with a long range effort from Rikki Morgan and when they were awarded a free-kick 20yds from goal Nathan Hosgood shot just wide of the post.

Bridgend Town 0 - 3 Dinas Powys
This was probably our last visit to the Bridgend ground at Coychurch Road before they move to a different venue for their home games but it was one to remember.
It was a welcome return to the type of football played at the beginning of the season and no coincidence was the comeback of Nathan Hosgood after injury. Dinas made their intentions clear to a Bridgend side still looking to get into the Welsh Premier Division, one way or another, as early as the second minute when Liam Jones won the ball out on the right, fed Jason Cowans who passed onto Nathan Hosgood but his shot from 15yds struck the bar with the goalkeeper beaten. Ramos Karvouniaris then headed over from a Paul Carro cross and when Bridgend conceded a free-kick on the left side of their penalty area the ball was played square to Jason Cowans whose shot was deflected over the bar by Lloyd Davies. Dinas were quicker to the ball than the home side with the home side’s forwards unable to break through the Dinas defence.
In the 25th minute Dinas got the goal their play deserved when a great cross-field ball was taken in his stride by Paul Carro, he beat a defender and advanced into the area before unleashing a low shot into the right hand corner of the net. Four minutes later Steve Provis won the ball on half-way before interchanging passes with Ramos and receiving the ball back deep in the Bridgend area, he shot weakly enabling a defender to clear off the goal-line.
The home side's best attacking move came when Joe Cusheri in the Dinas goal made a two fine saves from Morgan Harris and then Peter Cheeseman but it would have been an injustice had the away side not gone in at half-time a goal up.
Dinas started the second half where they had left off with Rikki Morgan and Paul Carro busy in midfield, and after Peter Cheeseman had headed over from a rare Bridgend attack Dinas got their second goal when Ramos bravely won a corner, it was taken by Rikki Morgan and Nathan Hosgood was on hand to volley in from close range.
The home side's reply came from an Anthony Wright shot pushed away for a corner by Joe Cusheri and Morgan Harris shooting over the bar.
Dinas completed their scoring with a great goal from Steve Provis, he received the ball on the left touchline before cutting inside a defender and shooting from 25yds the ball going over Marty Ellacott in the Bridgend goal and into the top right corner of the net, a fitting end to what was an excellent performance from the whole team.

Dinas Powys 2 - 2 UWIC
With the snow and frost thawing just in time this game was one of only a handful played in the Welsh League and started with a minute's silence in memory of the great George Best.
Because of a lengthy injury list Dinas once again had to dip into it’s Youth team to bolster the first team squad, Marc Mills, Josh Bell, and Tom Dolton have all made appearance as substitutes and Steve Provis has established himself in the first team in the last few weeks.
As early as the fifth minute Dinas had the ball in the net but Rikki Morgan was just caught offside. UWIC’s answer was an attack down the right wing ending with a good low cross but Jamie Bradford shot wide from eight yards, a couple of free-kicks in quick succession were awarded to the away side but the Dinas defence stood firm, comfortably clearing the danger.
Ramos Karvouniaris and Paul Carro were looking dangerous in attack for Dinas and it came as no surprise when a long ball out of defence found Ramos, his well judged pass to Paul Carro gave him the chance to round a defender and fire low into the corner of the net to open the scoring.
UWIC’s replies came mainly from set pieces but just on half time the dangerous Sam Small saw his 20yd shot rebound off a post to Ryan Jenkins who put the ball into an empty net for the equalizer.
With the ball moving swiftly from end to end both sides were contributing to an entertaining game. Within a few minutes of the restart a Dinas free-kick on the right taken by Jon Carpentier was headed on by Kurt Bettles but Brendan Copley in the UWIC goal saved comfortably, then Liam Jones made headway down the right and crossed, but the keeper was again on hand to take the ball.
Dinas were now applying plenty of pressure on the UWIC defence and from one of these attacks Ramos, Liam Jones and Paul Carro combined to force a corner taken by Rikki Morgan and substitute Liam Beddard was on hand to shoot high into the net from eight yards to give Dinas a deserved lead.
UWIC’s reply was almost immediate and after some pressure on the home defence it was the turn of their substitute Liam Walsh to finish off a move with a low shot into the corner of the net from 15yds.
Neither side were prepared to sit back and defend and both sides continued to attack at every opportunity but the defences just about held and the game ended two apiece with supporters going home having seen a committed display from both sides.

Newport YMCA 0 - 0 Dinas Powys
Dinas battled well in this game and deserved the point in a game of few clear chances with defences on top.
As expected the home side attacked Dinas from the outset, most of their opportunities coming from corners where they had the advantage of a couple of six foot plus players but Dinas were able to deal with these situations and mount several attacks of their own.
In the 16th minute Dinas were awarded a free-kick taken by Phil James but cleared for a corner, this was taken by the same player to Jason Cowans who was a little unlucky to see his glancing header well taken by Craig Margetts in the Newport goal.
The home side had their best move of the game in the 38th minute when John Pardeu left a couple of defenders in his wake and shot low and hard from about 20yds only to see Richie Johnson pull off an excellent save pushing the ball round the post, Leon Sparge took the corner and when the ball was headed towards the goal Steve Provis was well placed to head off the line.
Dinas started the second half with more purpose and from a throw on the left Steve Provis was able to put over a dangerous cross but there was no forward there to convert. A couple of minutes later Paul Carro ran the ball from one end of the field to the other before putting over a cross that was just too long. Lloyd Davies then won the ball in midfield before passing to Ramos Karvouniaris, he then played the ball to Rikki Morgan whose shot from 20yds was just too high.
It was then Jason Cowans turn to provide a chance for Ramos but he couldn’t quite reach his through ball. Ten minutes from time the roles were reversed when Ramos won the ball in the air to head into the path of Jason Cowans but his shot was wide from a difficult angle. With a couple of minutes remaining a Phil James free-kick found the head of the diminutive Rikki Morgan but he put the chance wide of the goal. MORLEY WILLIAMS

Ton Pentre 2 - 0 Dinas Powys
According to their programme Ton Pentre reserve their best performances for Dinas Powys and so it was for the first half of this contest when they played well, passing accurately and working for each other, creating a string of chances.
It took just ten minutes for Ton to open the scoring from a corner, taken by Dale Price and converted at the near post by Gareth Wharton. Just 12 minutes later they doubled their lead when a long ball was played into the Dinas area and Raith Plant scored with a low shot from six yards. For the rest of the half the home side applied further pressure with the only reply from Dinas being a couple of Neil Jeremy free-kicks both off-target.
The second half started with the travelling support fearing the worst but Dinas gradually worked their way into the game with Rikki Morgan resting the initiative from Ryan Shugar in the Ton midfield and Kurt Bettles winning his battle with dangerous forward Raith Plant. The away side were now playing some good passing football and after Jason Cowans had forced a corner, taken by Neil Jeremy, he then interchanged passes with Steve Provis before shooting low only to see Jon Howe in the Ton goal make a smart save.
On 80 minutes a mix-up in the Ton defence gave Neil Jeremy a chance but the home keeper bravely saved at his feet, both players continuing after treatment. Five minutes from time Rikki Morgan’s long pass to Paul Carro gave him a chance to cross low and hard but just in front of the onrushing Ramos Karvouniaris with the home defence able to clear.
Ton Pentre deserved to win this game after their first half display but Dinas showed enough skill and determination in the second half to show that they can arrest their alarming slide down the table.

Afan Lido 3 - 1 Dinas Powys
This was a game Dinas should have returned with a point but you have to put away goalscoring chances when you are on top otherwise at this level you are made to pay dearly.
Afan Lido started as if they were going to overrun Dinas and could have scored from a couple of chances it the first ten minutes, but they started to claw they way back and in the 20th minute Rikki Morgan squared the ball to Phil James but his shot was just too high, just a minute later Dinas were fortunate to go ahead when the referee awarded a penalty as Rikki Morgan went down in the area, much to the annoyance of the home side and their supporters, Rikki picked himself up and beat the keeper with a well taken spot-kick.
Afan Lido replied with Ian Jones shooting wide and a couple of quick corners but the away side were now dealing more comfortably with their attacks. In the 34th minute Ramos Karvouniaris was on the end of a Dinas attack only to see his effort deflected for an unproductive corner, a couple of minutes later Phil James and Ramos gave Rikki Morgan a chance to shoot but the home keeper pushed his effort away for another corner.
On 41 minutes the referee redressed the balance by awarding Afan Lido another dubious penalty when it appeared that Lee O’Brien had beaten a home forward to the ball to clear for a corner but the referee saw it differently and Ian Jones converted.
After a first half when Dinas had come back well the travelling support were hoping they could go on to get something from this game and they almost took the lead when a mix-up in the home defence gave Ramos a shooting opportunity directly in front of goal but he put it narrowly wide of the upright. Dinas were now taking the game to the home side and from a couple of corners first Kurt Bettles headed just over and then Lloyd Davies headed narrowly wide.
In the 65th minute Dinas were awarded a free-kick just outside the area when Rikki Morgan was upended but Jason Cowans left footed shot went inches over the crossbar.
Afan Lido scored their second goal from a corner in the 76th minute when Ian Jones headed in from close range. Dinas’s reply came from substitute Neil Jeremy whose free-kick forced a good save from the home keeper Wyn Walters.
As happens when teams are made to chase the game Afan Lido were able to break quickly and Liam McCreesh beat a couple of defenders before firing home from 15yds to score their third goal.
Dinas didn’t give up and in the 97th minute Rikki Morgan put Paul Carro clear only for him to see the keeper save with his feet, this seemed to sum-up Dinas’s day and so their poor run continues with further difficult away games to come.

AFC Llwydcoed 1 - 0 Dinas Powys
The first half of this game was an improvement for Dinas on recent games, some of this down to the return from injury of three players, but in persistent rain and with those returning lacking match fitness Llwydcoed came back strongly in the second half to pinch the three points.
As early as the second minute Rikki Morgan, playing in an unaccustomed forward role, saw his long range shot fly high and wide and a couple of minutes later Nathan Hosgoods quick free-kick was comfortably taken by the home keeper. Dinas were taking the game to the opposition and were caught narrowly offside on a number of occasions. Llwydcoed’s reply came in the 18th minute when their centre-forward struck a powerful 20yd shot which Richie Johnson did well to tip over the bar with the resulting corner cleared. Five minutes later Jason Cowans bundled his way into the home penalty area but Liam Jones’s cross was well taken by the keeper, Nathan Hosgood then conjured up another crossing opportunity for Jason Cowans, his measured cross was headed just over the bar by Phil James. Nathan Hosgood had the ball in the net after good work by Lloyd Davies and Jason Cowans only for it to be ruled offside and just before halftime Jon Carpentier headed over the bar from a Dinas corner. After the first half when Dinas created a number of good chances and dominated the game Llwydcoed came out with more purpose and with the wind and rain behind them put the Dinas defence under a lot more pressure. The away side’s best second half chance in the 68th minute when a free-kick on the edge of the area was taken by Phil James, his cross was missed by Kurt Bettles but Lian Jones was on hand to shoot low and hard, the ball rebounding to Nathan Hosgood whose shot went narrowly wide. The killer blow came just 4 minutes from time when Richie Johnson in the Dinas goal failed to gather the ball and then had to parry a second shot only to see the ball eventually fall to Ashley Trow on the right side of the area, he gained a few yards before unleashing a low shot across goal and into the far corner of the net. Dinas Powys 1 - 2 Taffs Well
After last week's good performance at Caerleon we all hoped that similar efforts at home to Taffs Well would give the side and supporters the win needed to get back on track, but it wasn’t to be and a lack lustre performance enabled an ordinary Taffs Well side to take all three points.
In a scrappy opening with both sides guilty of giving the ball away it was the away side who took the lead in the fifteenth minute when Omar Abdabilli skipped through the home defence rather too easily, and when the ball was deflected high into the penalty area Steven Loverso was on hand to head into the net from eight yards.
Taffs Well were stifling the Dinas midfield by closing them down quickly, and with some heavy challenges, most going unpunished by a referee who appeared to be on first name terms with many of their side. The youthfulness and inexperience of the home side meant that they were unable to find their way through the opposition’s defence and as the first half finished all they could look forward to were a few choice words from the management.
The second half started much as the first had ended with neither side creating much and most of the play in midfield. In the sixty-fifth minute Taffs Well doubled their lead with their best move of the game, a quick break out of defence ended with a good cross from the right to find substitute Liam Williams at the far post and his firm header ended in the opposite corner of the net.
It wasn’t until the eighty-seventh minute that Dinas had a worthwhile attempt on goal when Steve Provis powered his way into the penalty area only to be brought down, the resulting penalty converted by Neil Jeremy. The last few minutes were played out with Taffs Well determined to keep the ball near the corner flag and Dinas unable to get an equaliser.

Caerleon 0 - 0 Dinas Powys
Dinas Powys badly needed to get something from this game played near the Roman Amphitheatre in Caerleon, and it was down to the hard work and commitment of the fourteen players and management, plus the vociferous support of those sidelined through injury, that they were able to come away with a point from this game following defeats in their last two league games.
Straight from the kick-off Rikki Morgan beat two opponents before feeding Rhys Carr, his far post cross was aimed for Steve Provis but an offside flag intervened. Dinas were able to gain plenty of possession and apart from a couple of Caerleon corners the away side had the upper hand. What turned out to be Dinas’s best chance came in the 35th minute when the effective Paul Carro beat his marker and crossed finding Rikki Morgan all alone eight yards from goal but his header hit the upright and bounced kindly to a defender to clear. Four minutes later a Dinas free-kick taken by Phil James to Rikki Morgan, he fed Paul Carro and his cross beat the defence and ran invitingly across goal with nobody able to get the final touch. Just before half-time from another Dinas free-kick Ramos Karvouniaris headed narrowly wide.
Caerleon started the second half with a little more purpose and after just two minutes Jon Seymour was given to much room but, his shot, was saved by Richie Johnson in the Dinas goal. The game now became a midfield battle with few chances for either side, one of those fell to Caerleon substitute Luke Cueto who beat a Dinas defender and keeper to a through ball but his shot went narrowly wide. Dinas came close to a goal in the 80th minute when a long ball out of defence found Paul Carro who just managed to reach it on the bye-line, he crossed but the on-rushing Rikki Morgan was beaten to the ball by a Caerleon defender, deep into injury time from a similar position it was Ramos’s turn to cross from the bye-line but it was just in front of Paul Carro.
This was a point gained through hard work after a couple of poor results and it is a sign of the progress of the club that last season it was not until January that we reached the number of points we have already gained this season.

Goytre Utd 2 - 0 Dinas Powys
On a good pitch and in near perfect conditions Dinas Powys could not blame either for this defeat, undoubtedly the loss of five players through injury and suspension did not help but we were well beaten by a side who will give Neath a run for their money.
The opening exchanges were fairly even with chances falling to both sides for Dinas Jon Carpentier headed over from an early corner, and then Jamie Hosgood won a strong challenge to give Steve Herniman a shooting opportunity but his shot was too high. Then followed a period of pressure from Goytre with four corners in quick succession all cleared by the Dinas defence, but in the 18th minute another Goytre corner taken by Ian Turner fell to Ryan Penney to score the first goal from six yards.
On 30 minutes a Dinas attack ended with a Ramos Karvouniaris shot from 25 yards that Gareth Scantlebury in the Goytre goal did well to push over the bar for a corner. The second half started with Dinas needing to improve if they were going to get anything out of the game but it was Goytre who exerted the early pressure and it was from another corner they scored their second goal. The home team were now playing with the confidence of a two goal lead and were continuing to take the game to Dinas. It was not until the 74th when Dinas put together a worthwhile attack then substitute Peter Lewis fed Paul Carro who made a determined run into the penalty area and pulled the ball back from the bye-line but the home keeper just managed to get his fingertips to the ball before Liam Jones could get there. Further Dinas pressure saw Steve Provis shoot straight at the keeper but if Dinas had scored it would have masked the difference between the sides on the day with Goytre fully deserving the win. Dinas Powys 0 - 2 Neath Ath
Neath came to the Murch having scored ten goals in their previous two games and just a point behind Dinas having played one game more, and in an entertaining game were to prove a very strong side.
The first fifteen minutes were evenly contested and Dinas had to wait until then for their first real chance when Ramos Karvouniaris headed wide from a well taken free-kick. Neath replied within a minute when Andrew Hill also headed wide from a corner, the same player was again on the end of a right wing cross tipped over the bar by Richie Johnson just a few minutes later.
On forty minutes Dinas won two corners in quick succession without creating any clear scoring opportunities but it was Neath who struck two minutes into injury time at the end of the first half when they won a free-kick on the left of the penalty area and Andrew Fairbairn’s left footed delivery fell invitingly to Liam Hancock to score from eight yards.
Dinas started the second half in determined fashion with attempts on goal by Nathan Hosgood and Rikki Morgan but there cause wasn’t helped when they were reduced to ten men when Jamie Dix was sent off. This seemed to galvanise Dinas into action with Rikki Morgan and Paul Carro driving them forward without creating any real goal-scoring chances and with the home side pushing forward the inevitable happened when Andrew Hill beat the Dinas keeper to a loose ball and had the easy job of scoring Neath’s second goal.
Dinas didn’t give up and in the 87th minute produced the best move of the game when Paul Carro and Peter Lewis put together great passing movement ending with a cross from the left which was met by Ramos Karvouniaris who volleyed first time from 20 yards only to see Huw Liddell in the Neath goal save with his feet, the ball rebounding to Ramos but his second effort was too high.
Neath deserved to win this game and are by far the best side Dinas have played this season but the home side also showed they can play and should not be too down-hearted after this setback.

Saturday 1 October 2005 Dinas Powys 2 - 2 Afan Lido Dinas Powys started this game without injured centre half Kurt Bettles against an Afan Lido side who were relegated from the Welsh Premier League last season but still retained most of their Premier League players. The visitors started strongly and as early as the second minute the combined efforts of Liam Jones and Rhodri Foote were needed to clear the ball off the line but they just had to wait a couple of minutes longer to take the lead when a cross from the right was headed in at the far post by Karl Lewis. Afan Lido continued to take the game to Dinas and Richie Johnson in the Dinas goal needed to make a couple of smart saves, and it was against the run of play when, from a Dinas free-kick, the ball fell to Nathan Hosgood who jinked one way and then the other to leave a defender sat on the floor before shooting over the keeper and into the far corner of the net to level the score. This gave Dinas the confidence they needed with Liam Jones shooting wide following a corner and Nathan Hosgood judged offside after a good move involving Jamie Dix. Afan Lido were still dangerous and Richie Johnson in the Dinas goal saved the home side on a number of occasions, but it was Dinas who went closest to scoring when Rikki Morgan, Nathan Hosgood, and Jamie Dix put together a great move to give Ramos Karvouniaris a chance from ten yards but he put the ball narrowly wide when well placed. Dinas started the second half strongly with a corner taken by Rikki Morgan cleared by the visiting defence and the same playing taking a free-kick well saved by keeper Brian Thomas. On the hour a well directed clearance found Nathan Hosgood deep in the opposition half, he advanced into the penalty area and placed his shot past the keeper from 18 yards to give Dinas the lead and double his own tally. The game ebbed and flowed with half-chances falling to both sides but it was Afan Lido who struck in the eighty-sixth minute after a couple of corners, the Dinas defence failed to clear the second and substitute Karl Roberts slotted the ball home from ten yards. Dinas defender Jon Carpentier had stood up well against a strong and difficult opponent in Chris Piper who tried everything to gain an advantage and had played a major part in Dinas gaining a hard fought point. Saturday 24 September 2005 Ton Pentre 4 - 1 Dinas Powys Shamrock Travel Cup, Round One Dinas Powys travelled to Ynys Park, Ton Pentre last Saturday for his first round Shamrock Cup Tie against the current Welsh League Champions minus a few regular first teamers but still with high hopes of progressing to the second round. Unfortunately this proved to be not the case as straight from the kick off Ton Pentre came straight at Dinas and put them under severe pressure laying siege to the Dinas goal. Try as they might Dinas were just not able to repel the home sides raids or indeed get any sort of foothold on the game, and it came as no surprise when Ton took the lead on 17 minutes when Carl Thomas bundled the ball over the Dinas line. The game followed the same pattern and in the 25th minute Ton doubled the lead when the tricky Alun Jones was allowed to run fully 50 yards to slot the ball home. Dinas though hit back in the very next minute when from virtually their first real attack on the home sides goal they won a free kick on the edge of the penalty area. Neil Jeremy did the rest curling a beauty into the home sides net. This brought about Dinas's best period of the match and for ten minutes it seemed they may well get back into the game. Jason Cowans was unlucky to see his header thunder back of the Ton Pentre cross bar whilst Jamie Dix was thwarted in a one on one with the keeper. Unfortunately for Dinas this period of pressure didn't last long and Ton Pentre re-asserted their authority on the game. Matthew Slugg in the Dinas goal pulled of a tremendous fingertip save to keep Dinas in touch but this only delayed the inevitable when Ton restored their 2 goal advantage when Raith Plant netted in the 38th minute to send the home side into the break with a commanding 3-1 lead. Further misfortune befell Dinas at half time when skipper Kurt Bettles was forced to withdraw from the battle with a groin strain to be replaced by Lloyd Davies. In fairness though to Dinas Powys they refused to buckle in the second half and battled gamely against the very dangerous home sides forwards. The Dinas management team threw youngster Steve Provis into the fray on the 65th minute mark but further disaster befell the visitors in the 72nd minute when Neil Jeremy was very unfortunate to be sent from the field following a second yellow card. One hates to criticise referees but there is no doubt that this match official had a decidedly off day missing many things although he certainly showed he was more magical with his cards than Paul Daniels. Further pressure finally told when Ton netted their 4th goal in the 77th minute from a Tony Wallace strike. This immediately saw another change when Sean Taylor was introduced only to leave the field after just two minutes when a tackle saw him virtually immobile from an ankle injury. Fortunately for Dinas no more damage was incurred either from goals against or injuries received and the match finished at 4-1 to a very impressive Ton Pentre outfit. Not a good day for Dinas then but some positive points can be taken out of the game. Rhodri Foote and Jon Carpentier both excelled at the back in an effort to stem the flow whilst Liam Jones worked extremely hard in a midfield that on the day was overrun. Good luck to Ton Pentre in the next round and no one can deny they were deserved winners of this tie. ROB LEWIS
Saturday 17 September 2005 Dinas Powys 3 - 2 Briton Ferry Following their Welsh Cup defeat against Port Talbot the previous week, Dinas Powys returned to league action last Saturday. They took their unbeaten start in Welsh League Division One to six matches with a battling 3-2 win over visitors Briton Ferry. Dinas started well and after 15 minutes took the lead when Jamie Dix netted in style from the penalty spot after a hand-ball offence by a visiting defender. This seemed to sting Briton Ferry into action and the equaliser wasn't long in coming when Sam Brown fired home a free kick. The match now ebbed and flowed as both sides battled for midfield. It was Dinas though who regained the lead when Ramos Karvouniaris netted shortly before the break. Dinas made a disastrous start to the second half when Briton Ferry equalised almost straight from the restart, Ashley Stevenson heading home. The visitors were now in the ascendancy and put Dinas under increasing pressure. Things began to look really bleak for the villagers when, 20 minutes from the end, the influential Rikki Morgan received his marching orders for a second yellow card offence. Dinas are made of far firmer stuff these days though, and digging deep, they again took the lead when Neil Jeremy netted direct from a corner ten minutes from the end, and this proved to be the winner, putting Dinas six points clear at the top of Welsh League Division One ROB LEWIS

Dinas Powys 0 - 2 Port Talbot
FAW Welsh Cup, Round One
This was always going to be a difficult game for Dinas against the Welsh Premier League side, the home side battling against a physically strong team and the goal-scoring abilities of their centre forward being the difference between the sides.
Dinas started strongly in front of a crowd strengthened by youngsters from the Junior Section of the club who were to play a mini football game at half-time. A Rikki Morgan through ball was collected by the Marty Ellacott in the Port Talbot goal and when the same player took a free-kick to Liam Jones his shot was easily saved by the keeper. Port Talbot’s reply came with a cross from the right headed wide of goal by Andrew Pearson.
After eleven minutes Liam Jones should have done better with a 25yd shot wide of the goal after Rikki Morgan had won the ball in midfield. Port Talbot were beginning to exert more pressure on the Dinas defence and their first goal came in the 25th minute when a Leigh De-Vulgt long throw was missed by a defender and Rhys Griffiths got a touch at the near post to score.
Within five minutes they had doubled their lead when the same player headed in from a corner from the left. Dinas reply came predictably from Nathan Hosgood who beat three defenders and crossed for Liam Beddard at the far post, his shot was pushed away by the keeper for an unproductive corner. Dinas went in at half-time two goals down, a position they have not been in before this season, so it was down to the Juniors to entertain the crowd for ten minutes.
Ten minutes into the second half a Dinas attack down the right involving Jason Cowan, Paul Carro, and Rikki Morgan was cleared by the defence. With Port Talbot seemingly happy to sit on their lead the game seemed to descend into a bit of a stalemate until two goal Rhys Morgan appeared to lead with his elbow in a challenge on Kurt Bettles and was sent off for a second bookable offence.
This was just the spur the home side needed with Kurt being pushed forward, they took the game to Port Talbot, Nathan Hosgood crossed to Neil Jeremy who volleyed wide and a Dinas corner taken by Neil forced the keeper to punch clear, then a long clearance by the Dinas keeper fell to Jamie Dix and his low shot was taken by the Port Talbot keeper at the second attempt as the surface became slippery with the rain becoming heavier.
The one-man advantage was short lived when Nathan Hosgood was dismissed with ten minutes left. Dinas continued to take the game to the Premier League side in the remaining minutes with Liam Jones heading wide from a corner and the same player forcing a save from the keeper after Kurt Bettles had headed across goal to give him the opportunity. So it is Port Talbot who progress to the next round and Dinas will learn that you have to make more of the fewer opportunities you get against opposition from a higher level. MORLEY WILLIAMS
Saturday 27 August 2005 Dinas Powys 3 - 1 Pontardawe Town Both sides came into this game unbeaten so far this season so Dinas knew they were up against a strong side.
The first 13 minutes of the game Pontardawe had the majority of the possession but only created one shooting opportunity when Carl Mainwaring fired a 25 yard free-kick over the crossbar. So it was against the run of play when new signing Phillip James was given to much room just outside the penalty area and he made no mistake with a low shot beating Chris Curtis in the Pontardawe goal.
The away side replied with a throw on the right of the Dinas area put out for a corner by Ramos Karvouniaris, back helping his defence, this ended with a foul on a defender enabling Dinas to clear their lines.
The goal gave the home side the boost they needed and were taking the game to Pontardawe, and when Paul Carro was fouled on the left of the area, Nathan Hosgood crossed the resulting free-kick for Liam Jones who found himself with plenty of room 8 yards out and fired past the keeper to double the lead. Just before half-time Ramos Karvouniaris shot was beaten out by the keeper and when Pontardawe replied Kurt Bettles was on hand to clear for an unproductive corner.
After 51 minutes a free-kick on the right side of the area was taken by Carl Mainwaring forcing the home keeper to punch clear under pressure, then a few minutes later Pontardawe won the ball on the halfway line, carried the ball to the edge of the area and crossed low and hard but just in front of Jamie Rickard when well placed to score.
Dinas were still creating chances and on 83 minutes a long ball out of defence found Nathan Hosgood who in typical fashion weaved his way into the area and despite being dragged to the floor by a defender just managed to pass the ball to Ramos Karvouniaris all by himself in front of goal to score the third goal.
Pontardawe were not to be denied and became the first side this season to breach the Dinas rearguard when a free-kick was headed in by Steven Cox.
So the excellent start to the season continues with Dinas four points clear at the top of Welsh League Division One

Barry Town 0 - 0 Dinas Powys
This was the second time in eight days these two clubs had met with Dinas having won the first encounter so you didn’t have to be a genius to know that Barry would be going all out to gain revenge.
The first chance fell to Dinas when Billy Clarke in the Barry goal attempted to clear the ball only to see it hit his own defender and rebound just wide of the post for a corner, it was taken quickly and Neil Jeremy shot over the bar from a wide position.
On 15 minutes a Dinas goal-kick was driven straight back towards the Dinas goal for Ohene Na Quinhare to shoot wide, within a couple on minutes Ramos Karvouniaris robbed a Barry defender took the ball to the edge of the area but shot narrowly wide.
On 36 minutes Barry attacked down the left, the ball was crossed to Nmamdi Iyizoba but Richie Johnson made a great save tipping the ball over the bar from his well taken shot. Just before half-time Dinas gained a throw near the corner flag taken by Jason Cowans to Liam Beddard whose shot from an acute angle was pushed behind for a corner.
The first 20 minutes of the second half was a bit of a stalemate with neither side able to create any meaningful chances until a Barry attack ended with a good cross only for Leon Jeanne to head tamely at the keeper. This seemed to wake-up both sides and Dinas replied with two Neil Jeremy shots and Barry’s Chris Harry headed towards goal only to see his attempt pushed over for a corner.
With 15 minutes left Dinas were denied what seemed an obvious penalty, only the referee did not see it quite that way and awarded a free kick on the edge of the Barry area, this was taken by Neil Jeremy and his shot hit the side netting. Further half-chances fell to both sides but the defences held firm and both sides had to make do with a point each.

Dinas Powys 2 - 0 Caerleon
With a couple of key players missing it was a tribute to the whole squad that the replacements came in and Dinas were able to get a result despite Caerleon having the better of the first half.
The first chance fell to Dinas in the fourth minute when a throw on the left gave Jason Cowans the chance to cross but Jamie Dix headed well wide. Caerleon struck back from a free-kick taken by dead ball specialist Todd Quarterly for Glen Willis to head over the bar, followed by a corner taken by the same player but the resulting header was again off target.
Caerleon were taking the game to Dinas and when Craig Jollif broke through the middle of the Dinas defence and just managed to get a foot to the ball he saw his effort tipped over the bar by keeper Richie Johnson.
In the 25th minute a long ball out of the Dinas defence found Jamie Dix but his shot across goal was cleared, a few minutes later a good move down the right side gave Paul Carro a shooting chance but James Cairns in the Caerleon goal saved, the ball rebounding to Jason Cowans whose shot was deflected for a corner taken by Rikki Morgan for Ramos Karvouniaris to head wide. Despite theses chances Caerleon had the better of the first half and Dinas would have to improve to get anything out of the game.
Within a minute of the restart the game turned around when a great through ball found Liam Jones galloping down the middle and into the penalty area where he was challenged by a defender and both players went down, the referee immediately pointed to the penalty spot and up stepped Jamie Dix to score confidently.
Seven minutes later Caerleon almost struck back when a Todd Quarterly free-kick rebounded off the crossbar and was cleared for an unproductive corner, soon after another of his free-kicks was headed wide for a goal-kick.
In the 75th minute Dinas doubled the lead when a long ball out of defence saw a mix-up for Caerleon when goalkeeper and defender left the ball for each other and in stepped Ramos Karvouniaris to head the ball into the empty net.
Caerleon now had to take chances at the back but neither side could add to the score-line and Dinas were able to continue their run and stand at the top of Welsh League Division One with nine points from their first three games.

Dinas Powys 1 - 0 Barry Town
After having had a poor season last year both clubs are desperate to get back to the standards they have set themselves in previous years, so it was no surprise that this was a hard fought game with just the one goal deciding the outcome.
The first 15 minutes were fairly even with Jason Cowans of Dinas prominent providing chances to Jamie Dix who shot low and wide and Paul Carro whose shot was saved by Marty Ellacott in the Barry goal, their reply was quickly taken Leon Jeanne free kick deflected for an unproductive corner.
In the 16th minute Nathan Hosgood then won the ball on the right side of the area and shot across goal no Dinas player being able to get the final touch, three minutes later a Dinas corner was headed towards goal by Liam Jones but Paul Light was on hand to clear the ball off the line.
The Dinas defence were managing to deal with the threat of the Barry attackers, on one occasion Jon Carpentier forced Leon Jeanne to retreat back the edge of his own penalty area before offloading the ball.
In the 32nd minute the busy Rikki Morgan broke clear down the left and crossed but Jamie Dix completely missed his shot when well placed, six minutes later the breakthrough finally came for Dinas when Jason Cowans and Nathan Hosgood interchanged passes with Nathan crossing and Liam Jones gleefully heading into the net. Barry’s reply was a low shot well saved by Richie Johnson, and an Ali Kiyaga shot from 30yds going well wide.
Dinas continued to have the upper hand in the second half, in the 62nd minute Liam Jones broke from the edge of his own area running the length of the field before crossing, the Barry keeper saving under pressure from Rikki Morgan. Both sides were now using their substitutes in a game played at a high pace.
In the 84th minute Barry had arguably their best chance when the strong Ohene Na Quinhare forced his way into the area and shot but Richie Johnson in the Dinas goal was equal to it. In the 93rd minute Dinas almost had the last word when Paul Carro crossed and Ramos Karvouniaris put a powerful header just wide. For Dinas this was a good win against a strong Barry side who will cause sides a lot of problems this coming season. MORLEY WILLIAMS
Saturday 13 August 2005 Ely Rangers 0 - 2 Dinas Powys You could tell it was the start of the football season, the rain came down like stair rods, but this also made what was a good pitch even better with the ball zipping about and suited the Dinas side.
The early part of the game was dominated by Dinas, with a number of wayward attempts on goal and a couple of corners cleared by the home defence. In the fifth minute Jamie Dix broke through the middle before passing to Rikki Morgan, he laid the ball off to Nathan Hosgood who was fouled on the edge of the area, the resulting quick free kick going over the bar.
Dinas continued to dominate the first half hour with Paul Carro and Rikki Morgan busy in midfield and chances falling to Liam Jones and Paul Carro. Ely Rangers came back at Dinas towards the end of the half forcing a couple of corners and when Rangers, Graham Cummings, dummied Kurt Bettles near the corner flag and crossed, Daniel James shot high from the edge of the six yard box.
Rangers started the second half well but Dinas soon had them under pressure, a Nathan Hosgood free kick from the edge of the area found the head of Liam Jones but his effort went wide of the post and when Tim Broome shrugged off a couple of challenges wide on the right his low cross ran just in front of the on-rushing Dinas forwards.
The opening goal came in the 57th minute when Nathan Hosgood, having an excellent game, weaved his way past three defenders and into the area on the bye-line and crossed low for Jamie Dix to score from eight yards. The Rangers reply was to win the ball on the halfway line pass to Graham Cummings whose shot was again to high. Dinas had further chances, a Jamie Dix free kick was well taken by Ross Hooper-Nash in the Rangers goal.
Then in the 74th minute Dinas doubled their lead with a terrific move starting in their own penalty area and ending once again with Nathan Hosgood beating a couple of defenders before putting over a low cross which was put into his own net by a Rangers defender under pressure from Jamie Dix. Rangers showed their resilience by coming back at Dinas and hitting the bar twice in the final minutes but Dinas also had two goals disallowed and were the stronger side.

Dinas Powys 2 Bettws 2
A large crowd turned up for this last game of the season to see Dinas lead two goals to nil for much of the game only to be pegged back in the final six minutes.
The first fifteen minutes were even with defences on top, then a Bettws corner was cleared to Leigh Vick, he passed to Jason Cowan but his cross was cut out by the Bettws keeper. Two minutes later a Bettws free kick fell to Joff Wile and his shot was well saved by Alex Skinner in the Dinas goal.
The home side were starting to get the upper hand and it was no surprise when Nathan Hosgood won the ball in midfield, threaded the ball through to Jamie Dix and his shot from 20yds just about made it into the net for his 17th goal despite being injured for much of the season. Half time came with Dinas deservedly going in a goal up.
In the 50th minute a Dinas throw found Jason Cowan who crossed with the outside of his left foot for Jamie Dix to head just wide of the post, ten minutes later it was Jason Cowan again, leaving two defenders in his wake he passed to Jamie Dix who saw the Bettws keeper make a good save.
With Dinas on top and playing some good football Alex Skinner in the home goal cleared the ball to Jamie Dix on the right of the area, his inch perfect cross found James Harries who fired home from 12yds.
In the 84th minute the referee awarded Bettws a penalty for what looked like a fair tackle on the edge of the area, Joff Wile converted sending Alex Skinner the wrong way.
Straight from the kick-off Dinas went close to restoring their two goal advantage when Nathan Hosgood and Jamie Dix combined well to give Peter Lewis a clear chance but he shot over from a good position.
Bettws scored the equalizer in the 87th minute through Carl Rayner whose shot from 20yds flew into the net.
This game just about summed up Dinas’s season, nearly there but not quite.

Saturday 30 April 2005 In this penultimate game
of the season it was vital that Dinas got something out of the game
especially as we don’t yet know how many sides will be relegated,
therefore this result may prove to be very important. A couple of minutes later, from a Dinas throw, Nathan Hosgood fed Peter Lewis whose shot was pushed around the post by the Skewen keeper who then had to punch clear from the resulting corner only to see the ball fall to Jason Cowan whose shot ran just wide of the post. Jason was not to be denied and within a minute he won a tackle on the half way line and ran 40 mtrs before planting the ball wide of the keeper for the first goal. Dinas continued to
dominate and got their second on the stroke of half time when Nathan
Hosgood jinked between two defenders in the penalty area and was brought
down for a clear penalty scored by Leigh Vick. Dinas were still able to create chances with Nathan Hosgood and Peter Lewis going close. In the closing minutes of the game Dinas introduced youth team player Marc Mills for his first team debut and he almost wrapped the game up with a fierce shot which flew just over the bar.

Dinas Powys 1 - 1 Maesteg Park
Maesteg came to the Murch with the formidable record of having won their last 10 games so this was a battling performance against an in-form side with Dinas having the opportunity to win the game in the last minutes.
In the first half neither side could manage any clear cut chances, the best Dinas moves came from David Mwasigallah on the left who put over a number of good crosses from the bye-line but nobody could convert the chances created, from one such cross Nathan Hosgood headed wide and then a 25yd shot from Haydn Fleming scrapped the post. Maesteg also had half chances with Steve Conaty and Robert Walters dangerous. The first half ended with defences on top subduing the opposing forwards.
Maesteg started the better in the second half with Kurt Bettles clearing a Maesteg corner the ball going for a throw. On the hour a good Dinas move on the right side saw Haydn Fleming passing to Nathan Hosgood but his goalbound shot was deflected by one of his own players. Disaster struck for Dinas in the 67th minute when the normally reliable Richie Johnson fumbled a Maesteg punt into the area and David Lewis was on hand to tap in. Dinas did not let their heads drop and fought back strongly but they had to wait until the 86th minute when a Dinas corner was played short to Jason Cowan, his cross was headed by Kurt Bettles and Gary Wager in the Maesteg goal could not reach it as it went in at the angle of the upright and crossbar. Still Dinas came forward and another Jason Cowan cross was almost converted by Steve Herniman but the ball ran just wide. MORLEY WILLIAMS
SATURDAY 9 APRIL 2005 Gwynfi 2 - 3 Dinas Powys Gwynfi are bottom of the league without a win but recently they have strengthened their side and on this showing will probably get their first win before the end of the season. Gwynfi started strongly and had the better of the first 25 minutes but Dinas had a player sent off for two bookable offences and this seemed to wake them up and they started to play with much more purpose, four minutes after the sending off a precise through ball to Jamie Dix gave him the opportunity he rarely misses and he placed the ball under the keeper to score his 11th goal in just 13 matches. Within two minutes Liam Beddard’s persistence wide on the left produced a cross and Phil James headed the ball into his own net for the second goal. Dinas continued to dominate the rest of the half and further chances fell to Jamie Dix and Leigh Vick. Early in the second half Dinas got the third goal when another through ball from Liam Beddard found Jamie Dix and he made no mistake from 12 yards. The game was now more even and in the 70th minute Gwynfi’s Luke Williams scored with a shot from 20 yards, five minutes later Gwynfi grabbed their second goal but Dinas held out without to many problems for the last 15 minutes and deserved the three points. Dinas Powys 5 - 0 Garw
The return of Nathan Hosgood and Jamie Dix was a much welcome boost to the side and it showed with a much improved performance against a side one place off the foot of the table.
Dinas started well and soon put Garw under pressure, early chances fell to Jamie Dix, Steve Herniman, and Liam Jones. Liam was not to be denied in the 22nd minute when he met a Jamie Dix cross in the six yard box and shot past the keeper. The second goal came ten minutes later from a Neil Jeremy corner, this time it was Kurt Bettles on hand to volley in from twelve yards. The Garw goal lived a charmed life for the remainder of the first half and so Dinas went in at halftime 2-0 up and the supporters were for once looking forward to the second half.
It did not take long for Dinas to get the third, just two minutes into the second half a throw on the right to Leigh Vick produced a good cross and Jamie Dix was on hand to score at the far post. With an hour gone a Nathan Hosgood freekick found Neil Jeremy in the box and he was able to score with ease, after 70 minutes the best move of the game from one end of the pitch to the other ended with Nathan Hosgood scoring. Further chances fell to Dinas but they were unable to add to what was already a very respectable score.

SATURDAY 2 APRIL 2005 Dinas Powys 0 – 2 Neath This was another six pointer against a side just below Dinas in the table but at the moment we just don’t seem able to put the ball in the net although in this game we created a host of chances. After just five minutes David Mwasigallah was caught just offside from a through ball played by Haydn Fleming, but within a few minutes Neath got their first goal when a free kick was allowed to go across the goalmouth and Ryan Penny headed in virtually unchallenged at the far post. From a corner Kurt Bettles shot just wide and then from a free kick 25mtrs from goal Leigh Vick fired over the crossbar. Five minutes later another freekick fell to Kurt Bettles on the edge of the area and his fierce shot was saved by the Neath keeper at the second attempt. The best chance of the half fell to Steve Herniman but his shot from 15mtrs hit the post and rebounded to safety. The second half started quietly with neither side creating any clear chances until in the 75th minute a swift Neath break on the left produced a good cross and Richard Howell was on hand to score their second goal. Dinas continued to create chances, the best falling to Lee Street who hooked the ball over the bar when well placed. Dinas have further games against teams at the foot of the table but they must start converting the chances into goals. MORLEY WILLIAMS

Caerleon 0 - 0 Dinas Powys
Against the side one place above them in the table it was important to keep in touch with Caerleon and the sides immediately above them, and so this battling performance wasn’t pretty but was effective.
In the sixth minute Dinas had claims for a penalty turned down when James Harries appeared to be tripped in the penalty area, five minutes later Peter Lewis shot from the edge of the penalty area only to see the ball hit the foot of the post, bounce across the goalmouth and somehow run out for a goal kick. From a Dinas corner Kurt Bettles challenged for the ball which fell to Liam Jones but his shot went over the bar. Caerleon were gifted a couple of chances by the Dinas defence but Richie Johnson in the Dinas goal was equal to anything the Caerleon forwards could throw at him. Dinas went in at halftime having just about had the better of the first half.
Caerleon started the second half strongly and the Dinas keeper made a couple of good saves. Good work on the right side of the area ended with a Lloyd Davies cross but Peter Lewis could not connect and the ball went for a goal kick. In the sixty sixth minute Caerleon’s Chris Pearce wasted a good chance shooting over from a good position and at the other end a Dinas cross from the left side was returned back across goal by Neil Jeremy only for Liam Jones to miss out at the far post. Dinas almost had the last word when from a Haydn Fleming corner Neil Jeremy chested down and shot in one movement only to see the home keeper make an excellent save.

Dinas Powys 0 - 3 Goytre
Although this was an improved performance over the previous game it was still not good enough against a side who were more determined and quicker to the ball throughout the game. The first clear chance fell to Goytre when a free kick on the left was headed towards goal but Alex Skinner in the Dinas goal saved well. Leigh Vick tried to get Dinas moving forward with a couple of shots the second from 30yds going just over the bar. Goytre scored a good goal in the 22nd minute when a cross from the right was volleyed in at the far post by Michael Waters. They scored a second on the stroke of half time when a swift break ended with a cross from the left and Kevin Bartley headed powerfully home.
The second half started with the introduction of substitutes Liam Jones and Mike Emery to try to give Dinas a much needed boost. Haydn Fleming was working hard in midfield but the central defensive partnership of Wes Drew and Kurt Bettles were have a tough time with the abrasive play of the Goytre forwards. In the 57th minute Dinas had a couple of clear chances to get back into the game, first a free kick on the right was chested down by Mike Emery but he could not convert, then from another free kick Kurt Bettles volleyed over when well placed. Goytre had the last word when Johnny Walkley broke into the area and crossed for Darren Lyons to score their third and final goal.

Garw 2 - 0 Dinas Powys
There can’t be many sides who can go from the highs of a good away win at Briton Ferry to a dismal defeat at Garw, a side who had only managed two wins in the league up until this meeting.
Garw took the lead as early as the fifth minute when a free kick taken by Gareth Hughes from 22 mts left Billy Clarke in the Dinas goal rooted to the spot, this was all the encouragement the home side needed and despite Dinas having the greater share of possession and a number of good chances they could not make them count and they went in at half time a goal down.
The coffee and home made pasty were very welcome at half time on a very cold day, Dinas made one change at half time with Mike Emery making his debut up front at the expense of Rhodri Foote. From an early corner to Dinas, David Mann crossed for Kurt Bettles to head but the keeper saved under the bar. Further chances fell to Dinas but the robust style of the home forwards were keeping the Dinas defence busy. In the 85th minute a Garw corner wasn’t cleared by the Dinas defence and Nathan Parrott was on hand to hammer the ball into the net to complete a day best forgotten.

Briton Ferry 1 - 4 Dinas Powys After a number of disappointing results changes were made to both the squad and the formation, new signing Haydn Fleming came in on the right side of midfield against a young side who have had a good run recently. Dinas quickly got into their stride and in the fifth minute Peter Lewis received the ball 20 yds out and his fierce shot was tipped over the bar, eight minutes later Rhodri Foote cut in from the touchline and hit a shot from the corner of the area across the keeper and into the far corner to give Dinas a deserved lead. Further efforts on goal were made by Rhodri Foote and Jason Cowan and it took until the 28th minute for Briton Ferry to get their first shot on goal saved by Billy Clarke. I n the 32nd minute a free kick to Dinas was headed on by Peter Lewis for Kurt Bettles to force the ball home from the edge of the six yard box. The first half ended with the away side well on top and the Dinas defence dominating giving Briton Ferry few opportunities. Briton Ferry came out in the second half and pressed Dinas back into their own half coming close to scoring when a header clipped the post. The home side were getting more possession leaving the Dinas supporters wondering if we were going to get a repeat of the previous two games when they were lost in the second half. On 70 minutes Dinas had a third goal disallowed after a good run by Haydn Fleming who passed to Rhodri Foote but the linesman raised his flag for offside as he put the ball into the net. Just four minutes later Leigh Vick and Haydn Fleming combined well to send Rhodri Foote clear, he squared the ball to Liam Jones who beat the keeper from 15 yds. Briton Ferry struck back when a high ball into the six yard box was forced over the line along with the Dinas keeper the referee giving the goal despite protests of a foul. Dinas struck back within a minute when a corner was headed home by Kurt Bettles to cap a man of the match performance for his work in both penalty areas. MORLEY WILLIAMS
SATURDAY 29 JANUARY 2005
Shamrock Travel Cup, Round Three
Dinas Powys 0 - 2 Bettws
Straight from the kick-off Dinas could have taken the lead when Liam Jones burst down the right and into the area, his shot narrowly missing the far post, a couple of minutes later the same player received a free kick and crossed the ball but it was put over the bar for a goal kick.
The first 30 minutes was marked by Dinas playing some neat football, with Leigh Vick, Peter Lewis, and Richie Gunney combining well on the left side but failing to convert possession into goals.
Bettws were coming more into the game without threatening the Dinas goal.
On 40 minutes Leigh Vick and Jason Cowan combined well and crossed for Peter Lewis to shoot but it was blocked be a Bettws defender and the chance was gone.
Bettws emulated Dinas at the start of the second half and had a couple of chances on the Dinas goal. In the 55th minute Dean Vokes had the ball in the net for Bettws only to have it ruled offside but they were not to be denied and when Dinas keeper Billy Clarke missed a cross on the edge of the area a Bettws header ended in the net to give them the lead in the cup tie.
On 70 minutes Bettws substitute Owain Green made it two with a shot from 20 yds which went over the keeper and into the roof of the net.
Despite creating a number of half chances Dinas could not score the goal that would have put pressure on Bettws for the remainder of the game and now have no interest in any cup competitions. MORLEY WILLIAMS
SATURDAY 22 JANUARY 2005 Grange Harlequins 3 - 0 Dinas Powys With Dinas still missing two mainstays of the attack it was not really surprising that goals were hard to come by against a side third in the league and with ambitions of promotion. In the pouring rain the Quins had the first effort on goal when Dale Raven shot wide from a free kick on the corner of the penalty area. After 10 minutes good work between Leigh Vick and Richie Gunney ended with a low cross almost converted by Peter Lewis. Dinas were getting plenty of possession and after 25 minutes a Leigh Vick cross just eluded Peter Lewis and Lee Street on the edge of the six yard box. Richie Gunney had a shot defelcted for an unproductive corner and a Peter Lewis shot from 25 yds was well saved by the home keeper. In the 46th minute Kurt Bettles heads a cross wide and at half time Dinas were left wondering if they had missed their chance in a half where they had but failed to convert their domination into goals. For Dinas the second half was a non-event with the Quins enjoying the sort of possession Dinas had in the first half, the difference being that they converted their pressure into goals. In the 56th minute Ryan Shugar scored from a good cross, twenty minutes later they got their second when Gareth Elliott headed home from a corner. On 83 minutes a Neil Jeremy free kick was headed over by Kurt Bettles but it was the Quins who had the last word when the ball was given away in midfield and Billy Clarke brought down the attacker in the area to earn a booking with Darren Ryan scoring the resulting penalty. SATURDAY 15 JANUARY 2005 Dinas Powys 0 - 0 Taffs Well
Dinas Powys went into this game missing three regulars against a side who have suffered much disruption themselves over the last couple of months, the players coming in acquitted themselves in a tough battle between two sides unwilling to give an inch and as early as the second minute the referee had to intervene booking James Harries and Wayne Marks after a scuffle.
In the tenth minute Lee Street had a shot pushed around the post by ex Barry keeper Marty Ellacott but the referee gave a goal kick. On 25 minutes Peter Lewis had a snap shot from 25 mts saved and Dinas were just about on top. There were further Dinas efforts on goal from Kurt Bettles and Peter Lewis with a reply from Taffs Well when a free kick was headed on and Billy Clarke had to move smartly to save.
The second half started with Taffs Well pressing hard but not creating any clear chances, in the 60th minute a Dinas corner was headed across goal for Lee Street at the far post, his effort produced a good save from the keeper. Both sides used their substitutes in particular Dinas Under 17 player Steve Provis replacing James Harries to make his first team debut, he did not look out of place in the remaining 23 minutes of the game, once again the junior section of the club producing players that will hopefully do well for the club in the future.
In the end a draw was a fair result with both sides happy with a point.

SATURDAY 8 JANUARY 2005 Dinas Powys 1 - 0 Barry Town
The last time Barry Town came to The Murch was for a pre-season friendly a couple of seasons ago when they were looking forward to another successful season in the Welsh Premier League, they duly put Dinas in their place with a resounding 7-1 beating, how times have changed for them.
Their team is currently a mixture of Youth Academy players, three or four more experienced Welsh League players, and two very experienced managers willing to do their bit on the pitch.
The game started with plenty of Dinas pressure, and it was from a fifth minute corner with the ball ricocheting about on the edge of the six yard box that Stinging Nettles (Kurt Bettles) got a decisive touch giving Dinas the lead.
The next 20 minutes Dinas were just about on top with Richard Gunney and Lee Street firing over the bar. Towards the end of the first half Barry fought back with their academy players Sean Nash, Rhys Attley, and Sion Anstee playing well.
The second half was fairly even with both sides creating half chances and making use of all their substitutes, James Harries and Stinging Nettles should have made more of clear headers but in the end Dinas were delighted to come away with three much needed points in a hard fought game played in good spirit.

SATURDAY 18 DECEMBER 2004 Bridgend 3 - 1 Dinas Powys
The first chance in this game fell to the home side when a free kick from 35 metres was cleared and the resulting corner was headed wide.
Dinas' first attack produced a free kick which was headed wide by Kurt Bettles and then an exchange of passes between Jon Carpentier and Leigh Vick ended with a good cross to the far post which saw a Peter Lewis header pushed around the post by the keeper for an unproductive corner.
Further chances fell to both sides but it was Bridgend who took the lead on the stroke of half time when their No 8 moved into the penalty area and his well struck shot went into the opposite corner of the net.
Dinas started the second half with more purpose, and shots from Leigh Vick and James Harries went close but it was Bridgend who scored against the run of play when a good move on their left ended with a low cross into the area and their No 10 made no mistake from 8 metres.
Dinas used their substitutes in a desperate attempt to get something out of the game but in the 73rd minute Bridgend increased their lead when their No 7 scored from 25 metres.
In the 80th minute Dinas scored when Leigh Vick and Peter Lewis combined to produce a cross which was converted by Jamie Dix to make the final score 3-1 to the home side.

SATURDAY 11 DECEMBER 2004 Skewen Athletic 0 - 0 Dinas Powys Dinas travelled to Skewen who are riding high in the league and found themselves having to play on a bumpy pitch almost devoid of the green stuff. The home side had devised a style of play to suit the pitch and did not hesitate to get the ball as far up the pitch as quickly as possible but Dinas playing a 4-4-2 formation were able to cope with Billy Clarke in goal and Kurt Bettles playing particularly well. Dinas had chances through the game with Jamie Dix failing to score when well placed in front of goal and Neil Jeremy getting a nasty bobble just as he was shooting, the ball going way over the bar. This was a hard working and committed performance with Dinas coming away from Skewen with a well deserved point that few other teams will match. MORLEY WILLIAMS
SATURDAY 4 DECEMBER 2004 Dinas Powys 0 - 2 UWIC UWIC came to the Murch four places below Dinas in the League but reports we had had suggested they were in a false position and they proved to be a strong side forcing a couple of corners in the first 5 minutes. Dinas replied with a Leigh Vick shot going wide and from a throw-in on the right a Jamie Dix shot was well saved by the UWIC keeper. After 20 minutes a UWIC corner was headed over by their towering centre forward Tom Billings and for the remainder of the first half UWIC were well on top but could not put the ball in the net. The second half started with Dinas winning more of the ball and able to apply more pressure on the UWIC defence who were limited to a couple of breakaways. In the 55th minute from a free kick on the right awarded to Dinas, Nathan Hosgood headed in what seemed a perfectly good goal but was ruled offside. Dinas were competing more in the second half and it was against the run of play when in the 80th minute Billy Clarke in the Dinas goal was judged to have pushed a UWIC player and Tom Billings stepped up to score the resulting penalty. With Dinas pushing forward for an equalizer they were caught out when Liam Walsh shot wide of Billy Clarke to give UWIC a second and decisive goal, the Dinas keeper pulling of a couple of good saves in the closing minutes to keep the score at two nil. SATURDAY 27 NOVEMBER 2004 Maesteg Park 2 - 1 Dinas Powys Maesteg opened the scoring in this mid-table game in the 15th minute through Steve Conaty with Liam Beddard replying for the away side in the 30th minute to level the scores. Maesteg scored their second goal just before half time, the goal scored by Robert Walters.
This was Dinas’s worst performance for a number of matches and despite the use of the 3 substitutes in the last 20 minutes and Leigh Vick’s strike against the crossbar they came away from the game empty handed.

SATURDAY 20 NOVEMBER 2004 Dinas Powys 7 - 1 Gwynfi United Work on the pitch during the morning ensured this game would go ahead despite rain falling all morning and during the game, Gwynfi had not won a game so far and Dinas had to make sure that they were not going to be their first victims and with this in mind Dinas went on the offensive from the start but it wasn’t until the 15th minute when a cross from the right was cleverly left to run by Nathan Hosgood and Jamie Dix put the ball into the net from 12 mtrs with his sixth goal in as many games since rejoining the club. It took until the 30th minute for the second goal and it came from the head of Kurt Bettles who finished off an accurate corner. Gwynfi did not let their heads drop but with the pitch cutting up and Dinas dominating the game with some good football it was only a matter of time before the goals would come, the third goal was scored by Peter Lewis when the ball rebounded to him of the crossbar and he was on hand to tap in. Further goals followed from a Liam Beddard header, a second for Peter Lewis from 10 mtrs, a James Harries shot from 15 mtrs and in the last minute Jamie Dix got a second. Gwynfi replied with a consolation goal from Paul Rogers. MORLEY WILLIAMS
WEDNESDAY 17 NOVEMBER 2004 Ton Pentre 2 - 1 Dinas Powys On a wet pitch in driving rain both sides tried to play football but the conditions made things very difficult. Ton Pentre had the first direct attack and a cross from the right hand side of the area was allowed to cross the goalmouth and Dinas managed to clear the danger. Dinas’s first attack, after 10 minutes, ended with Nathan Hosgood being fouled on the edge of the area and Neil Jeremy firing the ball over the crossbar from the resulting free kick. The game was even until the 30th minute when an excellent ball from Neil Jeremy was hit first time by Jamie Dix and crept inside the post to give Dinas the lead. Within five minutes Ton Pentre had levelled when a dangerous cross from the left found Lyndon Williams who scored from ten metres, and five minutes later Dinas were behind when a Ton Pentre free kick fell to Shaun Fackrell who made no mistake to make it 2-1 at half time. Dinas were now playing into the wind and rain and both sides continued to try to play good football in increasingly difficult conditions. In the 60th minute a Dinas break on the left ended with the ball being crossed just behind Nathan Hosgood a minute later Leigh Vick beats his man and passes to Peter Lewis who turns in the area and shoots just wide of the post. The Dinas management team of Mike Spray and Peter Walker ring the changes and bring on Jon Carpentier, Liam Beddard, and Spencer Lamb but the fresh legs are not enough and Dinas go down in a game where they did enough to get at least a point. SATURDAY 13 NOVEMBER 2004 Welsh League Shamrock Travel Cup, Round Two Gwynfi United 1 - 6 Dinas Powys After a long trek, seemingly all uphill, Dinas arrived only just in time for the kick off and it wasn’t long into the game when Dinas thought it may have been better to have stayed at home.
Gwynfi were awarded a penalty for handball but it was saved by Alex Skinner diving to his left.
On 13 minutes Dinas took the lead when from a corner Jamie Dix ran in unmarked to score, this led to more Dinas pressure on the Gwynfi goal and the only surprise was that it took until the 31st minute to increase their lead when Leigh Vick beat a defender on the left corner of the area and hit a looping shot into the opposite top corner of the net.
For the remainder of the first half Dinas continued to create chances and we were left wondering if this may come back to haunt them in the second half.
It looked as if this may be the case as within a minute of the restart Gwynfi scored from a goalmouth scramble following a corner.
Our fears were allayed after 55 minutes when Leigh Vick once again beat a defender, crossed the ball, and after a mix up in the Gwynfi defence Nathan Hosgood was on hand to tap the ball in.
On 65 minutes a strong header out of defence by Kurt Bettles found Jamie Dix whose perfectly weighted ball to Spencer Lamb enabled him to shot past the keeper and into the net.
In the final ten minutes Dinas tightened their hold on the game with two further goals, the first from a short corner, crossed to the far post where Neil Jeremy met the ball on the half volley to score just inside the post and finally a Peter Lewis chip over the keeper which rebounded of the bar and the keeper to end in the net.

WEDNESDAY 10 NOVEMBER 2004 Neath 2 - 1 Dinas Powys On an excellent pitch Dinas started by exerting pressure on the Neath side and did not look to have any hangover from the Bangor game. In the tenth minute a dipping shot from Gareth Hemmens went just wide of the goal and then a swift break by Rhodri Foote ended with a shot by Peter Lewis well saved by the home goalkeeper. After 25 minutes the dangerous Ben Davies of Neath broke quickly into the right side of the penalty and shot into the net off the post, Dinas replied when Rhodri Foote once again got the better of his marker and crossed but Jamie Dix could only put the ball wide of the post. The away side finally got the break there efforts deserved when from a Nathan Hosgood free kick on the right Jamie Dix got to the ball first to score his third goal in three games since his return to the side. The second half started a little more evenly but Dinas were still causing Neath problems and their keeper had to save well from Jamie Dix and Peter Lewis, then it was Alex Skinner’s turn to save well from a Neath header. The Dinas management rang the changes and on came Liam Beddard, Neil Jeremy, and Spencer Lamb but it was Neath who took the lead nine minutes from time with the ball going into the roof of the net from six metres. Dinas still moved forward and created several chances prompted by Neil Jeremy, hitting the post and having two goals disallowed but it was not to be and Dinas headed back down the M4 empty-handed.
